There's an aquarium shop in Dragon Mart - sorry I can't remember which section though, but they had a good array of aquariums, from table top ones to massive stand alone ones - and the full range of accessories - bound to be cheap.

Cheers,
Shafique

Rocketwoman - Iranian roots

The first woman space tourist is Iranian born and wearing both Iran and US flags on her uniform. She's only 35 and is paying $20m for the flight ! The article also says she is contributing to the space port in the UAE. Cosmic! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/5345872.stm

Are moderate Muslims doing enough? Yes. The issue is that normal Muslim behaviour is not newsworthy - praying, being charitable, speaking truth and being good citizens of the world do not make headlines. The historical truth is that Islam was never spread by the sword, nor has it spawned vicious wa...

kanelli - you make a fair point and I totally agree. If one aspect of the story is shown to be suspect then it casts a shadow over the whole story. What makes the story newsworthy is the link to 9/11 and the 5th anniversary of the attack. I did a Google on the ladies name and over 50 web sites came ...

All Muslim lunar months are defined as starting when the new moon is visible from that place. We can now calculate when the moon will be visible from any place on the earth - but it is a reasonably complex calculation as there are a number of factors that need to be taken into account. 1. The moon i...

:) Arnie, if you'd read my post you would have found the answer! :) Ramadan will start on one of two days, if the moon is not sighted on the first night, then it will start on the following night (under Islamic calendar, a day starts at sunset). The way the moon 'works', the new crescent will always...

Well done concord! I also get headaches when I start fasting - for me it's the caffein withdrawal. I usually struggle through the first two or three days before my body gets used to the fasting. There's no solution to feeling hungry later on in the day - that is part of the reason for fasting - to a...

Why is America powerful? Money. Here is my take on it, and I'll try to be brief and I'm most probably wrong in my analysis... but here goes. The rise to world power has been the fastest in history - due to the pace of technological progress post the Industrial Revolution. The US has only risen to wo...

Maad - money was my short cut to economic power. At the end of the day any government can print as much money as it wants.. just look at Zimbabwe, but that money is just a means of legal tender - people must value the notes and willingly exchange it for goods and services. Saudi Arabia has a lot of ...

One other point Maad - having money or great economic power does not necessarily equate to being advanced or backwards in all aspects. For many centuries, the greatest military, economic and intellectual nation on earth was China. It was feudal in governance, but also the source of global technologi...

Larissa, Nice to see a request for positive information/comments. Christians and Muslims have a lot in common – they both believe in all the Prophets from Adam to Jesus mentioned in the Bible. We believe in the same God – Muslims pray to the same God Jesus prayed to, and pretty much in the same mann...

Bleakus, Concord - thanks for the compliments. Mema - I suggest you re-read my post. Muslims aren't waging a war against Christians, Islam is not targetting Christianity - there are political conflicts around the world that are pitting Muslims against Christians or Jews, but don't confuse this with ...

Our company, which operates in the DIFC, is 9 to 3 for all employees. The e-mail that came round said that the DIFC hours during Ramadan was 9 to 3. However, according to DIFC employment law (2005) - which is different from 'normal UAE law': 21.1 During the Holy month of Ramadan, an employee who fas...

Larissa - read my edited post above to mema for my views on the subject. At the end of the day though - theological arguments count for much less tha...

zam - the legend of the spear started during the first (or second, I forget) crusade, and was instrumental in a particular battle during that crusade. The relic that was found and called 'the spear' was soon afterwards lost in another battle in the crusade. It's all a legend, and in any case if it d...

Iraq torture 'worse after Saddam'

BBC report that makes depressing reading: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/5368360.stm Torture may be worse now in Iraq than under former leader Saddam Hussein, the UN's chief anti-torture expert says. Manfred Nowak said the situation in Iraq was "out of control", with abuses being c...

Maybe they should let Saddam loose and set him back up to rule again. If the Iraqi's don't like the coalition helping and they can't co-operate amongst themselves to put their country right, maybe they deserve to have Saddam Hussein back. So far he seems to be the only person who was able to contro...

Intimacy - it's just a mess. I have no love for Saddam and think he was brutal - the crimes against the Iranians in the Iran/Iraq war and the actions against opposition (be they Kurds or Marsh Arabs) were reprehensible. What gets me is the hypocrisy. Iraqis are now worse off than they were under Sad...

Iranian Jews

"Anti-Semitism is not an eastern phenomenon, it's not an Islamic or Iranian phenomenon - anti-Semitism is a European phenomenon," he says, arguing that Jews in Iran even in their worst days never suffered as much as they did in Europe. Ahmedinijad is painted as an Anti-Semite in many repo...

I hope this is just a temporary aberation - by and large Christians and Muslims get on fine around the world.

There is no excuse for attacking places of worship and this is forbidden in the Quran, where Muslims are entrusted to actually protect these places.
