Top tip: I gave the birth notification issued by the hospital, along with the passports and marriage certificate, to my PRO and he did the running around for me. The birth certificates were issued the next day. (So, depending on the PRO, the need for the father to present apears to be flexible - but...

But if you want to be a boy racer... I guess it's ok.

Sorry, do I sound like I know anything about cars? (I don't) :) :)

Arnie - you forgot the main question the ladies will ask : "what colour is it"?

:)

Sounds fun though.

Latin is dead - but some great books were written in Latin - in fact all the languages I've listed are primarily so that I can read books in those languages. Thinking about it, I might add Persian before Latin though... should be easier to learn if I know Arabic and Urdu! Only just started learning ...

Threat to Gulf by Al Qaeda

I see that Al Qaeda are threatening the Gulf. Can't help but wonder what the consequences of an attack here would be - certainly no shortage of targets. Quite worrying! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5334618.stm Ayman al-Zawahiri also condemned the policies of his native Egypt. In the video, he...

Excellent post Danyal - agree with everything you say, but would expand only on one point.. how muslims can unify. I'm afraid that scholarly religious and secular education won't result in the unification of muslims. The only way to unite is under one religious leader. The segmentation and loss of p...

Sounds disgusting. First let me say I shower every day and hope I don't have BO :), I try not to burp and fart in public either. However, I'd like to point out an observation. Our noses adapt to what we are used to - we stop smelling a particular odour a few minutes after we first detect. Thus if yo...

Not sure if this is true - but I recall being told/reading that if you rub garlic into the soles of your feet (don't know why you'd want to do this), after a while you can smell garlic on your breath. The volatile compounds in garlic can penetrate the skin and get into your blood, apparently. That i...

Here are a few questions for the Muslim folk on this forum. 1) Do you think that Al Qaeda has the right to attack the UAE because it disagrees with the liberal Islam practiced here. 2) Do you think that Al Qaeda has the right to use terror to try to expel non-Muslims from Muslim lands, including th...

Valkyrie, are you a member of Al Qaeda? If not, it doesn't really matter to me what you think valid targets are since we are talking about Al Qaeda here. :D As I pointed out before, Al Qaeda seems to attack only government officials and civilians. They don't tackle military targets in the Middle Ea...

I've read the full speech of the pope, as issued by the vatican (link on BBC news website). It seems incredible that he chose this particular quote for the speech. It was the only quote in the speech and was extremely ill advised. The quote illustrates the bias of the Byzantine emperor and is just u...

Strewth! I just wish the Pope's script-writer could have chosen a more appropriate quote and not one that he does not agree with the content and which historians (and of course muslims) agree is incorrect. The tragedy is that this was all a predictable outcome. My view is that the Pope needs to just...

Guys, guys - I was pointing out what the score card would be if we tallied up the deaths caused by religious wars. The Crusades were a sustained period of offensive actions instigated by the Church and lasted a number of centuries. Add to that the forced conversions in Spain and slaughters there and...

I am so sad that a nun has been killed because of over-reactions to the Pope's speech. I wonder if Muslims are now going to be as vicious as the Israelis were over the past couple of months in Lebanon. I think you will find that all Muslim leaders and Muslims around the world will condemn the killi...

Shaf, I'm surprised if you thought I was slighting the Lebanese in any way, because I wasn't. My point is that some Muslims have acted violently in the wake of the Danish cartoons and now the Pope speech fiasco, so are they not equally as guilty of over-reacting as some people accuse the Israelis o...

Christians seem to be more capable of handling criticism and humour about their religion, so I doubt that the Pope's speech and subsequent uproar will cause a huge stir amongst the Christian population and make them murderous in defence of the Pope or Christianity. Let's see. I suppose there could ...
