Actually, I agree with you that your interpretation of 9.29 (which you are projecting on 'majority of scholars') is contradicted by other verses of the Quran.

I'd hate to think how much you'd post if I disagreed with you on this point!

Cheers,
Shafique

Now that 'eh' has finally agreed that Israeli collective punishments etc as listed by Amnesty International etc are to be condemned by him (as I condemn them too) - I guess we may eventually get him to clarify whether he supports Goldstein or condemns him as the religiously motivated terrorist he wa...

But I agree - the actions of Muhammad as recorded by Muslim historians should be condemned and which meet the definition of collective punishment. Cool, we have agreement - if your view of history is correct, then indeed Muhammad, pbuh, should indeed be condemned. I'm glad we agree that Muhammad wa...

^There is no difference in your mind, and I agree that both should be condemned, the imagined and the real.

I'm so glad that we agree that Israeli and imagined Muslim war crimes should both be condemned.

Huh? Goldstein wasn't involved in any blockades - he was a colonialist in occupied Palestine, where he committed his religiously motivated massacre on a Jewish festival. Why the confusion eh-oh? C'mon, you've made a good step in admitting that Israeli war crimes/crimes against humanity, as described...

I agree you think everyone but yourself is confused - but thanks for starting this thread to show that you agree the Quran contradicts your 'plain reading' of 9.29. So - I agree with your initial post that the Quranic verses you quoted contradict your 'plain reading' of 9.29. Is there anything else ...

Well, I've never denied that the Bible contains contradictions - so it is strange that you ask whether I've changed my mind on the subject, especially as you've quoted Biblical scholars who say it is a contradiction and that this misogynistic verse was a later fabrication. I totally agree that Chris...

So now you are extolling the moral virtues of Goldstein.

Interesting response when I ask whether you condemn him or not. I had you down for a Christian - perhaps I was mistaken and you're just a serial cut and paste junkie? ;)

Shafique, do you agree that preventing civilians from taking in supplies of food and then laying a complete siege of their encampment is a form of collective punishment? That is what the Israelis do, and yes I condemn this - as do the UN, Amnesty International et al. Bombing of Dresden, Hiroshima, ...

I think I've been very clear - Muhammad, pbuh, has not committed any war crimes - but has been accused of these by Orientalists and those who refuse to consider the whole evidence. But I also concede that the facts won't change your mind and that you think I'm wrong to believe that the Quran is corr...

Still no condemnation of Goldstein? Fascinating how when discussing the actions of a Jewish terrorist, you first say he was influenced by the Quran (still cracks me up), then want to compare him to Muhammad, pbuh. Why not compare him to Moses - surely Moses was more wicked as he apparently killed wo...

Re: Elton John Banned From Egypt Cuz He's Gay

Sorry to confuse you RC. No, I wouldn't ban Elton - I quite like his music, I've even bought his CDs! He's really just a 'drama queen' - but has vocal views about gay rights. I think he's entitled to speak his mind. My 'words' were just to point out that the UK and US also ban people from entering t...

Re: Wife beating in the Koran - split from Politics forum

I totally agree Melika with your premise. There is no excuse at all for wife battery. My argument is that God does not allow Muslims to batter their wives, and this one verse merely states that corporal punishment is allowed only after 1. admonishment and 2. abstaining from s.ex. We can certainly ha...

Re: Wife Beating In The Koran - Split From Politics Forum

You'll have to ask God why men and women are different. I've just been making the point that Islam does not condone wife battery - and this one verse about corporal punishment can't be used as an excuse to beat your wife. If it could, then surely we'll have some examples where it has been used as su...

Re: Elton John Banned From Egypt Cuz He's Gay

Fair point - as I said, I would have gone with no ban.

Some Christians want to kill Elton, some Muslims ban him from their country. Both object to his words - bad as each other, if you ask me (well, the Christian nutter is a bit more scary!)
