Re: American Opinion On Murderer

herve, you've lost the previous argument about the Quran etc and now you want me to comment on a headline in a survey!? You are living down to your reputation of being extremely silly. However, let me answer you directly (and not cowardly run away from even your silly argument) - the 52% of Canadian...

The Crisis of Zionism

This week's economist has a review of a book entitled 'The Crisis of Zionism' within a piece entitled 'A lement for American Jewry'. Enter Peter Beinart, a political scientist and former editor of the liberal (and pro-Israel) weekly, the New Republic. At J Street next week he will launch a book, “Th...

Re: War/violence Versus The Naked Human Body

I'm a Christian myself, and the statement about Christian's ideology on love as being "bad and ugly" is plain bullsh1t. Really? I'm happy to stand corrected, but my reading of historic teachings of s.ex, celibacy in Christianity is what I wrote above. S.ex in Christian ideology since the ...

FBI entrapment of 'Jihadists'

The Guardian has a very interesting article about a former FBI informant that has come clean and exposed the entrapment of Muslim suspects of terrorism in the US. It's quite long and quite shocking the details given. I give the opening and closing bits of the article as a taster. We should recall th...

BM - you're just going to get banned again. You really never learn do you?

Re: FBI Entrapment Of 'Jihadists'

It is frustrating to read things like this, because the public wants the sectret service to protect their interests by stopping genuine criminals, not incite and entrap people. It is a betrayal to the Muslim community and the population as a whole. Yes - that's what is tragic about this. The Muslim...

Re: FBI Entrapment Of 'Jihadists'

Then there are cases like this where informants themselves may have less than noble motives for what they report to security organizations. For a moment I thought this was a case that had been discussed in the past on DF - about the Toronto 'jihadists' who were entrapped by an informant paid $4.5 m...

Re: War/violence Versus The Naked Human Body

Are we talking about old Christianity or modern Christianity? Christianity before say the 1960s, and dating back to Agustine and Hipo. Nowadays, the 'official line' - even from the Catholic church is pretty much in line with the Islamic theology - that s.ex and nudity are not inherently shameful an...

Re: War/violence Versus The Naked Human Body

Yes, body shame does not exist in Islam. In my first post I was making the point that there is a distinction between a concept of modesty and body shame. The current Christian explanation for Christians to dress modestly, is pretty much what Islam also teaches. The Christian explanation (backed up b...

Re: War/violence Versus The Naked Human Body

What do you think about cases where women aren't able to see a doctor if only male doctors are available? It is wrong and counter to what religion teaches about doing no harm - and also counter intuitive and silly. A chaperone - either a nurse or family member is usually enough, and in any case whe...

Re: War/violence Versus The Naked Human Body

Now of course, cultural norms play a very big part - where people are used to seeing naked bodies, this concept that nudity is either shameful or immodest is something that may seem strange. I thought I did cover this point in the bit above. ;) Each community has to decide what is culturally accept...

I don't agree with you Shaf. Well, let's put this down to another point we have differing views on. No problems. Re: Teen Builds Fusion Reactor!

I think a bit of perspective on this clip - first it was a very short TED talk - only 3 mins and was from a session with a lot of speakers (you can see them in the background at the beginning of the clip). It was therefore part of a series of talks and in context it had to be short. He made the poin...

Why this is in politics? Well, it isn't any more.. Best place to buy Macs in Dubai

Hi, I'm going to be in Dubai for a few days this coming weekend and early next week. I'm buying some 'toys' on my company's expense - a Macbook Pro 13", Ipad and Iphone - and also for personal use a BD player with DNLA ( I have loads of luggage space free, and the goodies are all for me - an ea...

Re: Best Place To Buy Macs In Dubai

Thanks DDS - I'll pm you about my details - let me have yours. If I had the time, I'd get them from Hong Kong - but ...

The irony is that I am replying from an iPad. The kindle kis great for reading books and I do indeed swear by it .. It is a godsend when travelling and as easy to read on the eyes as paper. Colour PDFs are more gorgeous on an iPad or Laptop, but I will still be using the trusty kindle. Enjoy. Cheers...

Norway: A lesson for us all

Norway's overall response to the terrorist attack last year is the subject of this article - and comes after the recent scenes of thousands of Norwegians gathering and singing a song that the terrorist stated he hated in his trial. The reaction to the killings was initially anger, but the Norwegians...
