Salaam everyone! I'm currently enjoying a holiday in Mauritius with the family and had some spare time to surf the net and catch up with what's going in Dubai, and Dubai forums. I may spare some time and start posting again here... we'll see. :) About the quotation given by Scot about all terrorists...

Why give 'shock jocks' the pleasure of rising to their jibes and giving them publicity?

The comment about cockroaches was intentionally provocative - but I can't bring myself to be bothered about it. What good will that do?

Cheers,
Shafique

I have to agree with Jaba's first post on this thread - I also disagree with the tone and premise of the article. Science is not bad or a tool of the enemies of Islam! Science is the study of the natural world, i.e. the study of the Creation of Allah (according to Muslims). There are more verses of ...

Salaam, I followed the link and read chapter 7, and also had a quick scan of the other chapters. I think I have read this before, or something similar. There are many books written by Shia denouncing the Sunni beliefs and vice versa. This one concentrates on examples of Hadith which can be questione...

Sorry but I disagree, the Bible, Koran etc were all still written by the hand of 'man' and can therefore be flawed, because 'man' is not perfect and everything is open to interpretation. They cannot reflect the ever changing times, society etc. Agree with Chocs that all that is written by man is fl...

Hiya folks - good to be back occasionally. Currently on business in Turkey - in historic Istanbul. Had a little time on my hands and thought I'd check out the old haunt of Dubai Forums! The Real IRA, like all of the other branches with the possible exception of the PIRA, have mainly christian members (sectarian conflict, remember) but does not act on account of religious differences - they act on nationalistic ones. And no, I don't think they or the atheist Tamil Tigers have ever ...

Feminism's rape fallacy

An interesting discussion is taking place on the Guardian newspaper site: http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/david_cox/2007/09/feminisms_rape_fallacy.html The article ends with the following points, and if you click through you can read the responses.. When our houses are burgled, we're hardly more...

Salaam, I am a bit biased - I am an actuary and I work for an insurance company. Insurance is a social good and within the norms of Islam, however interest - both the taking and charging of it is against Islam. My day to day work involves using interest rate calculations, but I tend to develop produ...

The article was specifically talking about date rape and the fact that of all rape accusations only one in five result in convictions. I could not see where the article said it was ok to rape women. Perhaps it is just too simple a concept that if there weren't any dates, there wouldn't be any date r...

I practice it - as this is what Islam teaches - so yes. No dates - unless its after an engagement. Many/most religions teach that marital relations should only take place within marriage.. I happen to believe this and practice this. But I don't want to impose my views on others if they wish to live ...

Most rape victims are raped by people they know, not strangers lurking at night. So really the only way to prevent rape is to make sure women wear a top to bottom gown and lock their bedroom against boyfriends, husbands, fathers and brothers. One sure way to prevent rape outside of marriage is to l...

Scott, Religous people do not have the monopoly on morality and chastity - but generally, religion teaches people to be chaste and moral. It is a choice that anyone can choose to make - whether to sleep around or wait for marriage - religion is irrelevant here, for whilst all religions teach chastit...

Why only 'Islamic' Terrorists and not 'Christian' etc?

Following on from a discussion started in 'Most recited prayer ever', I thought I'd start a thread here on this topic. Frederick rightly points out that the troubles in Ireland were 'sectarian'. However he contends that their aims were nationalist/unionist and not based on religious views/values. Th...

BTW - I take Frederick's point that the IRA is distinct from the PIRA - and the former did not want sectarian violience. In my use of the terms, I used IRA and 'Real IRA' to denote the general terrorist campaign and the residual terrorist acts that have taken place recently. I see now that instead o...

Well you have deviated somewhat from your original take on a solution to date rapes - so yes it is a lot less preachy and more logical. I think a majority whether they be religious or not will agree that not sleeping around with other people when in a relationship or union of marriage will produce ...

In particular the IRA although self admitted terrorists they did what they did to make a point for their cause. This type differs hugely to the for example 9/11 terrorist who did what th...

Another point - the rise in 'Al Qaida inspired' attacks is interesting on many levels. Are the young men and women sympathising and joining in just 'fanatical nutters' or are they 'honest terrorists' (borrowing Arnie's phrase)? Those that think they are being brainwashed by mad mullahs into thinking...
