Re: help!!! -my dog

There are dogs of all kinds here, but what I think will be more of a problem than the weather will be the lack of large, "countryside" areas for your pup to go for a big run in. Dogs aren't allowed in public parks, nor - as far as I know - on beaches, though you do sometimes see them there. The only...

Why is it scary? It's fantastic - you can see the speed cameras from a mile off, and then slow down just in time. I am sure HP knew this when the "sponsored" them - otherwise why the eye-catching orange that isn't anything like their normal logo colours? One thing that is working to the speeding mot...

Best thing if you are inexperienced is to keep to the second lane. Obviously you want to avoid the fourth ("fastest") lane - but do not make the mistake of hogging the third lane, especially when the second lane is clear. This is really bad driving. Cars should not be doing 100kmph in the third lane...

Good god this is simple. Have him convert to Islam, and take you as a second wife. You won't need to convert. The marriage may not be legal in Europe/your home country, but it should be recognised under sharia law in Islamic countries. I know this works because a christian friend of mine's bastard h...

1) Is it recommended we learn some basic arabic prior to applying (ie take an online language course to obtain credentials?) Does this make us more attractive to employers? No and no, as you're unlikely to learn anything substantial or useful without intensive tuition. 2) We hear it is realtively c...

When you come on a message board pleading for a nice girlfriend and saying: "I am a 36 year old handsome&kind man blonde, tall, blue eyes living in Dubai. Looking forward to your reply" I would hazzard a guess that the women of the world reading it would suspect one of the following: A That you ...

You should find plenty to do.

One thing you will find here is dirt cheap but good childcare. So should you want to work part or full time, it will be very easy for you to do so.

It would be really easy to eat vegetarian at a good Lebanese restaurant - there are so many salads and non-meat mezze dishes.

If you have a thing about "being around meat" you could always get take-out/delivery.

Try fattoush, moutabel, hummous, tabbouleh.

Well what most people do is have a day-time or even live-in maid/nanny, which costs around Dh1,000 per month. You can often find a suitable lady in ads on supermarket noticeboards. Also you can ask friends and neighbours for personal recommendations (eg often a family is leaving Dubai, and they want...

I'm a bit lazy these days, my fun seems to revolve around eating and the internet :( But in the early days I used to go out much more, to the beach, to bars and clubs, to malls, etc. I have to admit that the worsening traffic is partly to blame for my curtailed leisure life. Though at least there ar...

Me too - I find polygamy very distasteful.

But this is hardly having two wives, it's a legally-acceptable workaround until he can get rid of the first. It's not like he's going to be in a relationship with the first wife in any way.

I highly recommend Dr Katrin Trelles at Dr Akel's clinic in Jumeirah (just down from the Lime Tree, above Magrudy's). They recently got a laser drill which means no more injections. I don't understand how the drill works, but it does its own anaesthetising and all you feel is this popping noise and ...

Jebel Ali Club costs about Dh1,000 a year for membership which includes the cardio machines, weight machines and free weights (not sure about classes though). It also has a swimming pool. The other is at Ibn Battuta mall - however you access it from OUTSIDE Andalucia court. It's in what was a big carpark next to Geant, bu...

One good thing about House of Prose - you can resell them all the books you buy from them, they will pay half price. (The only exception is books in their discount bin I think). Plus you can sell other books that you have. The nice thing about buying slightly battered books is you feel less bad if y...
