My son goes to Star International in Umm Sequiem. I dont know about Al Twar, but our branch is fantastic. It's really friendly and the kids are very well behaved. The curriculum is British, Oxford Reading Tree etc. The thing i really like about it are the small nuances, like the school song and the ...

I have posted elsewhere and I promise I am not on the payroll. However I really can recommend my son's school, Star International. He's 4 (FS2/KG2) and has come on great bounds since joing in November. Our particular campuss is in Umm Sheif. It's not finished as it will house all levels from FS1 to ...

Cant say I have a similar experience, but i do work for a british bank. We have compliance sections in most medium to large offices who handle this aspect. I would recommend you independantly research who is the compliance officer for mashreq and go about it from another angle. Just a thought, good ...

Yes, agree with above. There is so much Inshallah no-responsibility here whilst driving. from kids 'free ranging' to people texting (not jusy talking) on their phones. Examples need to be made or people will be killed throuigh lack of concentration / ability to drive whilst replying to that SMS. I m...

If i were you i would check with your bank as they may have frozen your assets anyway. My understanding of it is you have to pay back the full amount. If you dont have the funds then you must source elsewhere, this might mean abroad (at home). If you have another job before your visa is acancelled, ...

WORLD CUP 2010

What's the best way to get the Al Jazeera sport channels to watch the WC2010? I understand they have sole rights here in UAE and therefore my OSN smartcard is about as much use as a chocolate teapot! I cant seem to find the AJ subscriptions web page and the number I have seems to be someone's house....

Haunted House

This going to sound like I'm a nut job but who cares? The last few nights my wife and I have heard some seriously creepy sounds coming from the Villa. My wife thinks she has seen people walking into the bedroom and I can hear children playing when i know there are none. My favourite sound so far is ...

Re: Haunted House

.....thanks, interesting reading. Forgive my ignorance but what is qirat?

For the record we are not scared or disturbed by it, just curious. We had thought about getting the house blessed as we live directly opposite a small Mosque, but it's not malevolent..... yet!

Re: Haunted House

Wow, thanks BM, a most informative answer.

Things have quietened down a bit recently, but there is still the occasional object falling in the middle of the night.

I'll make sure they remain our friends!

Exactly, well said.

I also note with cynical humour this morning at the self congratulatory back slaps that they have cleared up 75% of the spill. Never mind it took them about a month to respond eh?

Employment Contracts - Public Knowledge?

Hi all, apologies if this has been posted before. I have been asked to go for an interview for a new job here. As usual I was thinking of inflating my current package for the new company to improve upon, then we can barter. However a recruitment friend told me to be careful as all labour contracts c...

Re: Boeing Captain

I heard they dont get that much as it's all about the benefits. I have a couple of pilot friends at my sons school and they said about 3ok per month depending on experience. It's also dependant on if you have trained with the airline, ie you owe them. Having said that they both have a nice house out...

Re: UAE Labour Contract But Working In DIFC

I understand that DIFC has it's own labour rules as it's a Free Zone. Therefore companies dont have to adhere to local rules on Emiratisation, Ramadam hours, Public Holidays etc. Like you say it's good sometimes, but on others. If i were to hazzard a guess not knowing your exact circumstances, then ...
