Under the terms of anti-smoking laws already in place in Scotland, any tabacco based element cannot be smoked in any confined public place. Not like England to be last, about time too. What a difference it makes to your nights out not having to inhale smoke. Good riddance to it. It's more concentrat...

Just to play Devil's Advocate on this, the single most common excuse I hear from people not coming back on time is "family issues". It's amazing, people can live here for 3 years then the 2 weeks they go home the biggest possible family emergency you can think of comes up and they have to ...

I find American-style candle light vigils slightly disturbing.... Holy crap freza, we agree on something! The American candlelight vigil always seems to be based on the fact that Americans want to seen to be part of paying respects to someone, and when the TV cameras turn up the number of candles g...

I bet they were British, those guys really know how to whinge. I heard the same thing from courier-service employees. Er, the Brits actually have a reputation for not complaining and just never going back! We don't like to cause a scene you see... Back on topic, actually in the West case 1 is very ...

Scottie, Louis Vuitton does not consider itself obliged to provide availability of all its catalogued items or to keep all their shops stocked with all of their latest lines; of course their customers are aware of it. Lack of inventory doesn't make luxury brands and their retail stores any less cus...

Indeed, having been brought up in the UK there would be a much higher chance of me being mugged or assaulted Pro-death penalty and anti-abortion too here, that certainly woul...

Can't think of any outside with a TV, good football places would be the Harvester pub in Crowne Plaze, Fibber McGees out the back of the Crowne Plaza and I've heard Scarlett's in Emirates Towers is busy on football nights, but never been there to confirm. Double Decker at Marooj is a good British pu...

Re: Dubai's future?

Apparently they had done an investigation on Dubai's oil reserves and Dubai only holds enough oil to last till 2015 max.. I have a feeling that their is going to be some major taxes coming up for Dubai Latest GDP figures show oil & gas contribution to Dubai's economy is only 6% and shrinking, r...

That's about the most expensive place in Dubai tho. Anyway, I was paying more than that a year to have my daughter in nursery in the UK 4 days a week, what we pay now is less than half that for 5 days. Clearly for many countries this is still expensive though, that's why I said it was good for Brits...

Goodbye Premiership on ART

Have to say I'm sorry to see it go to Showtime, you can just tell it's going to be some Americanised crap they come up with. Was pleasantly surprised with the ART coverage over here, they combined a bit of humour with some decent insight on the game, and of course watching John Burridge fumble over ...

Although drink is easy to come by without one, in terms of stupid reasons to get thrown out of the country (being caught drunk or with drink in your car) then I thought it useful to get one too, doesn't half take the hassle out of things. I've posted a long description of how to get one if you have ...

Lloyds TSB offshore account has a minimum balance of £100, you get separate pound, dollar and euro accounts and can transfer money between them twice a month without charge.

Doesn't tick the "no min balanace" requirement but compared to HSBC it's streets ahead.

It's very safe, crime is very low here, there are very few drugs and only a fraction of the underage drinking there is in other countries. Many people who live in the UK fall in love with the idea of Jumeirah but be aware that - as it's a more traditional area - there are mosques every couple of kilometres or so and my friends who live there grow very tired of the 4:30am prayer calls. Lakes, Springs, Arabian Ranches all have villas up ...

I know putting together a concert is a monumental task, I'm just astounded they don't seem to learn lessons from other events. The clear profiteering is also so evident that they'll get bands to come once and then possibly never come back. I have no doubt that getting an American band to play the Mi...

Gave up reading half way through as it was full of utter gibberish. 1) There is no vaccine for AIDS, so why are you trying to insinuate there's a deliberate infection process going on against those who are supposedly vaccinated? Once again, much of this is divisory. The Muslim world should be embracing its wealth (acquired through scientific gains in extracting and refining oil) to invest in coming generations. The religious education is there, but what could be more fulfilling for a muslim country/ scholar than to discover...
