Management Consultancy packages

Hi, I’ve had a final round interview with a consultancy in the UAE and I think I’m going to choose Dubai as a base over Abu Dhabi assuming I'm successful. I’m hoping to get an offer soon and I’m keen to get a handle on what sort of benefits I should be asking for. I’ve read a few different topics on...

I'm sure it's an old question, but how do you get English Premiership in Dubai? I'm moving there soon but last time I was there Orbit were advertising every league but that in their football package...

I've just taken a job in management consultancy. Comparing your package to mine, I'd have expected to see a better basic going on normal differences between the industries but then again your bonus may make a big difference! From my own searching, that sort of rent would probably get you a 3 bed vil...

They have now come back with US$125K as all-in salary. In addition, they will pay US$25K as signing bonus. The bonus will be in addition (no g'tee). I am told that the market practice is 50% or more (could be upto 150%). Wanted to check your reactions (especially from people who are in Dubai and un...

The rent spiral was explained to me when I got my job as being down to a stop in building around the turn of the millennium which - given it takes 4-5 years to plan and build these complexes - meant that there was a lack of housing supply and demand soared during this period. They guy who recruited ...

Tartan Army - Dubai

Hi folks,

I recently moved out here from the cold and wet of Scotland and before I came I was told there is a Tartan Army supporters club out here that take over a pub to watch the games.

Anyone got any details on this?

Most of that other thread covered process stuff. In terms of material things, well I just moved here and here's my thoughts: 1) If you own a house and especially if you have children then I would say ship your furniture/ belongings over. Although it's quite cheap to furnish a house here, when you ad...

Yup, I have one. You can get them on Etisalat. There is a monthly unlimited data charge of about 200dhs I think, plus your calls which are limited to 500dhs. They're pretty good. Emails pop up all the time but I only read the first line and decide when I'll answer it. It's most useful for sending em...

Hints and tips for breaking my Dubai 7s virginity

Hi folks, I'm new to Dubai and have bought tickets for the "premier social event" (so I'm told) in Dubai this weekend - the rugby 7s. I will be engaging in the age-old British tradition of drinking beer and going a worrying shade of red in the sun. Any hints and tips for me on things like:...

Seems to be stuck at 500Dhs which I thought was stupid given they're surely aimed at businesspeople. I even looked on the Etisalat site and it said that was the limit so it's not just some stupid company deal. Apparently you can add credit up at the World Trade Centre if you get close to your limit ...

Actually, I tell a lie. Just asked some guys in the office and it is set by the company and Etisalat together. Not sure who had the most sway in deciding the 500 limit but can't think of many reasons why we'd need to have our limit so low.

First thing I did was run around my bedroom looking for where I had hidden my alarm clock (I always hide it when I've been out drinking - it forces me not to hit snooze and fall asleep again!). Then I looked for water to try and cure the "rough as a badger's arse" look before heading to wo...

Re: You have lived in Dubai if ...

16) You had to look both ways crossing a one-way street. I've not been here long but that's the truest one! I guess to add to that is the fact that people always blame you when THEY cut you up joining a roundabout! Stop signs are just advisory here, the longer the traffic queue they've had to sit i...

For alcohol drinkers - a corkscrew/ bottle opener. Your moving in party just won't be the same without one.

My teeth have chips in them from too many parties without a bottle opener - hence why it was the first thing to come in to my mind. My arse will hopefully forever remain bottle-top free! Scots and Irish are a funny breed in that we find any excuse to speak to people from our home nations, especially when we're abroad. It's amazing how you can hear an accent from home and literally sit down and drink or eat with that person for the rest of the night and chat about stuff. I was handin...

Good offer for a single person, you can have a good life on that. Single bed flats beside Mall of the Emirates (Greens etc.) about 60-70kDhs I think. Not bad place to live either as only 10 minute commute to your work plus it's pretty close to the beach hotels where a good chunk of the nightlife is.

As with any country, it depends where you go!

Visa and mastercard everywhere, I can use Amex most places too. Beyond that, only the main expat places seem to take the full range of cards.

Nobody complains as the likes of the economy of the UAE has doubled in size in 5 years, so repatriation of wealth is going to be part of the price to pay for the country as a whole being much wealthier. If they try to stop it, the labour (from the poorest to the richest) will stop coming as, despite...

Yup, I'd say camera or video camera. Just get home, hide the bounty and then phone the police - all they'll see is a bunch of madmen chasing you in a car. I doubt they'll hang around long if they realise they're being filmed.
