i just made the same move as you are lookin to do, and everything i saw in the marina was above 90K for a 1 bedroom. i did find a large studio for 85K and the greens the cheapest i saw was 105K for a 1 bedroom.

you shouldnt have any problems, i bought a new laptop right before i left the states and it works just fine when its plugged into a power adaptor. most new laptops will convert the power, so all you'll need is a power adaptor. i've been using the new laptop here for a month with no issues. good luck

i thought most of the dvd players here were multisystem? i've bought 2 dvd players since i got here and they play my dvds from the states just fine.

one is a samsung and the other was a nikoai dvd players.

anyone know how i can get online with my mobile phone from the US? i brought over an unlocked phone and have been able to use Etisalat's SIM card, but i can't get online.

does anyone know how i can get online with my unlocked mobile with the etisalat sim?

anyone have any experience with the used auto park in Ras Al Khour INDS area? i've been told that the dealers there are on the shady side and to be careful about buyin a car from there. but anyone have any 1st hand experience dealing with that lot?

i just made a similar move as i work in dic. the 2 bedrooms near that area are in the 120-160 range. or all the apts i looked at in the marina area are that much. most usually come with a veranda or balcony, but you'd have to check for pets as most seemed to say no to that. as far as traffic if you ...

well i've been here for over a month now and its what you make of it. i came from the US where everyone worked 50-70 hours a week and i've found that's the same here. but i've been to get out and meet a bunch of new people so if you feelin lonely get out and meet new folks.

you'd have to pay taxes on that salary and your rent will be much higher in san fran. i've there before and it was very expensive. i just made the move out here myself and have enjoyed it so far. and the checks are nice without havin to lose 35% for taxes

thats right in DIC it's unblocked internet, that's where i work and can access anything i want. also if you live where DU services, they don't seem to block any sites, or haven't when i've tried from home and i live in JBR.

i thought they did test for drugs in your system. that is why it was explanined to me that i didn't need to take a drug test before moving over here with a new company.

if i were you, i'd look at JBR as well. the 2 bedrooms start high but you can get them down, since there's a ton of empty 2 bedrooms. i live there and work in DIC and it takes me 5-8 minutes to get to work.

peter my 2 bedroom started at 140 but i got him down to 125, nearly 1400 sq feet. JBR is the delayed complex that just started letting people move in, so there's a ton of apts there.

i looked at the marina and the cheapest 2 bedroom i could find was 135 and smaller than 1100 sq ft.

i work in DIC and just moved here recenlty. the 1 bedrooms in the marina can cost upto 130 if you got a nice view. but a co-worker just got a large studio for 85K, so it all depends on what you want, but its less than a 5 min drive from the marina area to DIC

i didn't bother looking at villas, as they are too large for me with the upkeep and space. but i was told they can go from 150-500K a year, depending on where you live, but from what i understand villas are harder to come by.

they don't call it a housing tax, it's termed something else, but it is 5% of yearly rent, paid monthly.

as far as internet/tv/landline it can be as expensive as you want it upto 900 dhs a month, it's very al a carte here. haven't received any dewa bills yet, so can't help you there.

went thru an agent who was fed up with the unreasonable rents that were being sought and she put in the offer.

she also rented a 1 bedroom for 90 at jbr, so i felt she would be good.

good luck, there's a ton of people finally moving in, but you should be able to find what you lookin for.

i dont know if you can find a 2 bedroom for that low, not unless you go way out from the marina area. the commute to Media city takes less than 10 min by car, i work there as well.

as far as visitors go, there's ways around that, but 2 bedrooms only get 1 parking spot.
