Re: The Burka Should Not Be Banned

I would still ban covering one's face, but I agree with the rest. If the women have to be draped in black cloth, so the should the men. That visible mark of religious/cultural piety should apply for both males and females, not just females.

Re: The Burka Should Not Be Banned

Berrin, I also think it is tasteless for women to wear dresses that show far too much skin, but it isn't unexpected for actresses who want to stand out and be remembered amongst a large group of other beautiful people. The thing that Muslim countries and non-Muslim countries have in common is their ...

Re: The Dress Code Debate Rumbles On

I dressed quite conservativley for my first year in Dubai, wearing long sleeves and long pants in public most of the time. After I was still leered at and treated like meat by some men, I got more lax about what I wore, though nothing remotely in the region of a bikini in the mall! My thinking was t...

Re: Help With Entitlement Due To Redundancy.

PIBHB, good luck with everything and I hope your husband finds a new job soon. I have experience with a company that has been reducing its workforce around the world and it has a fairly consistent severance policy in every country which is quite generous. Not all companies function this way though, ...

Re: New Restrictions On Iranian Women's Education

That's infuriating to read! When men and women are able to study and discuss together it breaks down that barrier of viewing each other as s.exual temptations and encourages men and women to see each other as fellow human beings with brains and ideas. Segregating men and women and only allowing men ...

Re: Why Do They Hate Us?

I watched the video and I agree with Mona Eltahawy. The veil was created by men to make women invisible in society and set the bar of piety so high that any woman wearing less can be considered worthy of any kind of abuse she gets. It makes the statement that women not covering are not as virtuous, ...

Re: Why Do They Hate Us?

Wearing the veil supports the false statement that men are dangerous and women have to become invisible to be safe in their company. Isn't that essentially supporting the misogynist notion that women are se.x objects and must make themselves invisible in order for men to behave themselves and women ...

Re: What's Up With Some People

DDS, I'm well aware that Muslim women around the world can wear other colours besides black. I've seen Muslims in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and North America. And you are wrong that some Western countries don't have laws about covering faces in a crowd. Just because Canada doesn't have one yet d...

Re: What's Up With Some People

So women who don't wear "religious" clothing like abayas and hijab or burka, or nun's habits, are all saying to the men in the world that they are se.xually available? Let me tell you straight - A woman is se.xually available when she consents to a partner that she wishes to have s.ex. Sim...

Re: Why Do They Hate Us?

Nucleus, the article I posted didn't cover those countries, and I have never stated this is only happening in the Middle East. It was a focused topic based on that article I had come across. I'll start a new thread with the other country articles if you like. There are examples of how girls and wome...

They likely had to pay an external lab to complete the tests. Still, if it was their mistake to order the tests in the first place they should have included a refund cheque with that apology.

Re: Can I Approach RERA?

Back when I lived in Dubai there was a yearly decree about the max. that a landlord could raise the rent. We took our landlord to the rent committee because he tried to raise the rent far above the decreed amount. We won, stayed on one more year with zero increase.

Re: Be Careful About Messing With A Woman's Honour!

I'm guessing since she felt pretty hostile about her rapist that she feels pretty hostile about his baby growing inside of her... I personally think she should view the child as innocent and give birth and give the child up for adoption. Still, easy for me to say without being in her shoes.

Re: Michelle Obama

I've resigned myself to the fact that all politicians are crooked. There is too much outside influence pressuring them, and too much manipulation - to achieve one goal you have to concede others or play favours.

Re: Michelle Obama

I'd probably want people I trust around me too - all royalty and poweful leaders tend to insulate themselves with those sharing their agenda and those who will protect them from some outside influences. I'm a fan of socialism over capitalism, so that's probably why Obama is appealing to me. I've liv...

Re: Be Careful About Messing With A Woman's Honour!

Just think, if she wasn't going to be shamed at being raped, she could have told her family and the police after the first rape and she wouldn't have had to endure more. She could also have received the morning after pill and stopped any chance of pregnancy occurring. It takes police to take it seri...
