Well DDS, I think most people realize that I was talking about Canadians since this topic is about Canadians needing the visas. Thanks for clearing that up though.
Trip Advisor has an automated system of putting a note in a thread when it is 6 months old, warning people that essentially it has expired and people need to start a new thread. Wish we had that here, but don't know if it is possible.
I wish I could import my friends out of Dubai for a visit, because I have no interest in returning except to see friends. There is nothing else I miss about Dubai or want to see there. Having a $250 visa to enter just makes the decision of whether to visit or not a lot easier.
zonker, Canada's immigration system is too easy, but they've been tightening up. My kids are born outside of Canada, and if they don't have their children in Canada, then the Canadian citizenship cannot be passed to those children any longer. I don't have a problem with this because people should re...
zonker, what you are saying only applies to those applying under skilled worker class, not ones who are sponsored over by family or those who get citizenship because one parent has a Canadian passport. I think the residency period should be at least 5 years before people are allowed to apply for cit...
benjw, you should see the conspiracy stuff in other threads like the 9/11 ones - why would it be a stretch on this forum that someone would claim the catering truck was crashed on purpose? Seriously though, I have no idea why you are commenting on my friends. Most have moved away from Dubai, s...
So Christianity and Judaism don't have the same comments in their holy books? What is the exact quote that says "eye for an eye" in the Quran? I don't see anything that says that in any of the above quotes. As far as I know, all religions have had pretty severe punishments in the past and ...
Well, either the bible and quran say that it should be "eye for an eye" or they don't. Whether or not societies practice that is interesting, don't you think? Maybe the Christians are going against God by not chopping off hands and severing spinal cords?
No one says those things are pleasant. I'm sure the guy getting electrocuted or lethally injected in the US, or shot in the head in China aren't enjoying that too much either. Either the holy books say it is so, or they don't - which is it? Are some following their religious texts more closely than ...
It was pretty funny in one discussion on this forum there was a brown guy and myself agreeing on something. I got called a racist, and the other guy said "I'm brown, I can't be racist!" and he was let off the hook. That experience really opened my eyes a little more. zonker, clearly you ar...
Does the quran tell Iranians to do chop hands and stone women or not? Do other Islamic countries do the same? I'm saying that religious text can be interpreted different ways and can be used as a excuse for things done for cultural reasons in a society - no matter what the level of development. Homo...
Of course we are all racist to some degree. Some people seriously think that because they are non-white that they aren't racist, which I find quite funny.
And he just quoted Exodus which says that those who "curseth" their parents will surely be killed. No comments about that one? So people, are you following your religious texts or the cultural practices of modern or old times? Very peculiar that Islamic punishments need to be explained or...
So, the West can find it distasteful and it can not be practiced in the West. There is no need to allow Sharia law in the West (unless Islam becomes the predominate religion, which it may do one day.) Other societies should not be forced to change more quickly than they are ready for - it took thous...
Religions which do assert a criteria on who to mix with and and who to marry, often do that to prevent dilution of those beliefs in future generations , and to prevent unsanctioned practices from seeping in to the religion due to lack of understanding of it. The reason is noble and has a purpose Ju...
Seriously? Aren't you living in Dubai? Let's see. If we check news reporting and letters to the editor of newspapers - a person's race, nationality, religion are included when not relevant to the topic. Ads for housing, jobs, spouses etc. state race, religion, ethnicity that is preferred. People are...
But have you established that it is Islamic law, or laws that tend to be practiced in some Islamic countries? (Like how female genital mutilation is not according to Islam, though some like to accuse it of being so. It is practiced in some Islamic countries but also non-Islamic ones.)
No Ambassador, my comment was written directly after FD's, but other's posts came in between. "Seriously" means, if you live in Dubai how can you seriously not know how racist it is.
Don't confuse my post with Chocs - you asked her a question, not me.
Well, benefits in Dubai for me were that I got paid more than my more experienced coworkers (though I did have a higher degree). I got better service in some stores, however, I was often quoted inflated prices that those of other profiles did not get quoted.
Are you living in the Springs by chance? We had a problem with ours and it was running constantly because water was leaking under our driveway. You might want to get it all checked out to see if you have a leak somewhere and water is being constantly pumped.
