They should teach the rules for the level of cleanliness they expect in the camps and then provide proper cleaning services. In Singapore bathrooms there are signs that tell people not to squat on the seats for hygiene reasons, and most bathrooms contain both types of toilets, so people can use the ...

I can't believe some of you think that Michelle Obama is unattractive. She's very pretty and has a great figure, and most of all, she's extremely smart.

Just because people aren't battling on the streets doesn't mean a place is tolerant. There are other ways to show intolerance and bias, and in Dubai you can see it all.

speedhump, why can't the individuals or companies etc. involved just sue for slander like they do everywhere else in the world? The problem with the current UAE laws is that it can be too broadly used to stifle any criticism whatsoever.

I weaned my boy at 21 months because I've got another one coming and don't want to be breastfeeding two at once. According to Islam it is actually desirable to breastfeed until 2 yrs of age, and I met many Muslim ladies who took that seriously and continued to breastfeed until that age.

Sometimes I wish that all the expats would leave the UAE, and let the 20% Emirati population look after their country by themselves. If families can't even stay together and people who have stayed decades can't get citizenship, then why do people even want to stay and contribute to a place that will...

Of course there have been improvements in the last couple of years. Why? Because of pressure from foreign influences and because workers have been revolting about their pay and conditions in camps and on work sites. It was no revelation on the part of contractors etc. that maybe they are treating th...

Hasn't it only been the past few years that labourers have been transported in buses instead of open trucks? Regular passenger buses do not have bars across the windows so that people can't escape if there has been an accident, so don't know why worker buses have bars. Also, why don't all buses have...

Seriously, I just don't get why people want to stay so long in the UAE when they have to send their babies back to their home country to be raised by family, or they work for decades in the UAE and can't even get citizenship. The smart ones will use any financial gain to educate themselves and then ...

Because this is what they want to do to the expats - "Use 'em and lose 'em". This is what I was saying in another thread - why bother staying so long in the UAE when you can never be a part of the country? Some Emiratis are resentful of the expats who come for a couple of years to make as ...

I agree, the US would probably love it because then they have an excuse to attack Iran. Though I have to say that Obama isn't for Iran's throat like Bush was... seems he'd like to engage Iran with discussion rather than showing muscle. As for the UAE, that is a good question. I wonder what would hap...

So sad when I see people scrounging on scraps to survive - have seen so many examples on screen from India, parts of Asia, Africa etc. Also, I've seen homeless people scrounging from dumpsters in Toronto too. Very depressing :(
