He he he  I've been bringing my cloth bags to the shops here and they give me a strange look. I'm not against loading the bags full of goods rather than filling them half full and using another bag. The guy was looking at me like I was crazy because I said it was okay to put dishwashing...

Me again :) I received a nice response letter from EEG, and I think they'd help us in any way they can to promote more recycling in our areas. Here is some more info about their recycling program: "EEG is undertaking collection of paper, cans, plastic, glass and toner for recycling. We have more tha...

I found IKEA cheaper here than in Finland or Canada; however, we are in the process of buying our stuff from Home Centre in the Mall of the Emirates. The prices are pretty close depending on what you choose, and I think the quality is a bit better. Would you like me to bore you with an IKEA price co...

Well, we didn't buy from :( Home Centre :( yesterday, their policies are completely unfair to customers. We had a whole living and dining room outfitted for about 7,000 AED but the sticking point was the couch. The last piece in the warehouse was defective, so we would need to buy the floor model if...

Choco, I'm the same way - tanning isn't my thing at all. In fact, I burn after about 15 minutes, so am always slathered in sunscreen. Shoe-leather skin and cancer aren't really cool, so I'll just be happy with my pale skin.

There are Christian churches in Dubai, so Christians are free to practice their religion. If you come into the country with a crapload of religious books and materials they will assume you are here to convert people, which wouldn't be accepted. No offence, but all of your questions posted today are ...

No problem, I'm happy to help.

This place is very exciting and multi-cultural, and in two weeks I have already learned a lot about how to cope in a new environment. Every day is an adventure, and I love it so far!

Seriously though, Dubai is changing every day and advice now might not be relevant in two years. You just have to keep up on things over the next couple of years to see what has changed and what hasn't. Are there any websites you've found about the hiring of medical personnel in Dubai? I personally ...

I've met a couple of guys with beautiful long hair in good condition, and it suited their features. Having said this, I still don't find long hair masculine enough for me. A short cut that shows off manly facial features is much more attractive in my opinion :)

The guys is a total nut-job who is unqualified for his position, and like the American nut-job currently in office - has the potential to do great harm with his power. Anyone here who thinks that any population of people should be wiped off the planet, or removed from their homes is also a nut-job. ...

MaaaD, I wonder if those girls were in our block of flats, because my husband said he saw some girls sunbathing topless in our pool area a week ago. I'm glad he's paying close attention  I agree that it is pretty rude to go topless in a Muslim country, even if it is a more liberal emirate we li...

Well, I wasn't at Cream, but my New Year's Eve was equally disastrous. We were supposed to be having a great party in the desert (in a neighbouring emirate) but it was so poorly organised! First, some Arabs might not look kindly on you two as a couple because Muslims are supposed to marry other Muslims. The Westerners probably have seen other relationships between a Muslim person and non-Muslim person fall apart because of religious or family pressure etc. Why do you find it strange t...

Everyone has a right to give an opinion here, and when it comes to religious opinions, you can be sure that people will strongly disagree. It is my opinion that people should mind their own behaviour according to their religion and spend less time judging others. Ideally, people should respect that ...

The USA in particular is the main point from which sin and all things anti-God tend to emanate. It is an evil country hell bent on destroying God's planet. It is a scurge. I spit on the US... They make a mockery of everything and everyone. I lived in Canada for a long time so I know very well the U...

Also, since when are moderators not allowed to express their views? This is Dubai, part of the UAE, part of the Arab Nation. A Nation that has been stabbed countless times by the West and Israel. A Nation that will rise up one day and take back its pride and its lands. The Arab nation stabs its own...

The Arab nation stabs its own people and is bitterly divided because of religious and political factions. The Arab nation has stabbed Israel, just as Israel has stabbed it. Neither one should be claiming moral superiority. In case you haven't noticed Liban, the UAE wants the West to be involved in ...

Let's hope it doesn't come down to that... because the results would be quite bad for the Arab world.

I'm certain it won't because it is only little freaky groups of radical people who want war with the West. They are the minority, thankfully.

What is created by Western "technology" is OK to use for the following reason. The Arabs launched the western development movement back from the time of the rennaissance, so no, it is not being a hypocrite. Very humourous. I suppose there has to be an excuse for Arabs who hate the West to continue ...
