Thanks everyone. I thought Fayz had won the title Mr. Dubai forums, but I guess somehow Jamal beat him. (Don't ask me how that happened!) Oh well, no Canadian clean sweep this year.
I don't really have any duties or obligations I guess
Good luck! I know how hard it can be for students to find an internship. I hope we have some people here who could suggest to their employers that it might be great to have intern on board for 3 months, even if it isn't usual to have an intern in the company.
Yes, you can challenge the landlord's claim at the rent committee and they will ask that the landlord to provide lots of evidence that they intend to move into the flat/villa. If the tenant finds out that the landlord has not moved in (within 6 months I believe), they can then sue the landlord.
Here is another perspective... Perhaps the US wants to retain tight control on contracts for any work, oil or otherwise, in Iraq because big business makes for big political pressure? Maybe they prefer a US (and allies) monopoly at the moment until they pull the troops out?
I would suggest visiting in person with your CV and a cover letter that explains what you can do as an intern, because you might have to sell an employer on the idea of taking on an intern, especially if they have never had one before. The "unpaid" part helps :) Does your school offer help...
These could be helpful, I don't know because I haven't read through everything carefully - 1) http://www.mol.gov.ae/pages-EN/documents-en/procedureGuide-en.htm#e I found it by going to http://www.dubai.ae/en.portal , then choosing Employment > Ministry of Labour Procedure Guide from the menus 2) htt...
France and Russia condemned the invasion of Iraq (as did many other countries). Perhaps the US is giving them the middle finger for their lack of support? As you can see, there appear to be three advantages to keeping the contracts in US and ally hands. 1) Profit 2) More control over political press...
Then there are some people who constantly say mean things and fly off the handle, but think it is okay to do so because they can just say sorry after and that will heal everything. I makes for a lot of empty sorrys.
Your company cannot legally employ anyone without sponsoring their visa and going through the proper channels. Please check the Ministry of Labour website and Dubai government website for more info on Labour rules. Good luck!
It really pays off to check the labour law ahead of time, especially in the UAE where companies are famous for breaking laws and treating employees like dirt. I'm afraid to give any advice because I am not an expert.
Please don't tell me your employer also has your passport. If yes, you will have to come up with a creative excuse to get it back to be able to start the process of signing with a new company. Good luck with everything, and if you sign with a new company make sure they are following the law, paying ...
They accompany you with your passport and take it back right away? That is disgusting behaviour with something that is the property of your government and you. I hope you can think of some good excuse for them to give you your passport back without hovering over you to see what you are doing with it...
I got 15% eventhough my contract begins in Jan '07 Talked to my landlord and he said he knows the law but that our building was paying less than the market standards for a 1 bedroom apartment That sux If you already signed for a 15% increase then there isn't much you can do. If you haven't signed, ...
See, a.s.s.h.a.t was used like crazy on this forum until I used the word, now there is a filter created specially for that. Sorry guys, not under my control!
Yes, Concord, I certainly understand. If the US economy is going to be hard hit by big-time spending on war, they will of course try to recoup costs. It wouldn't make sense for them to award the contracts to benefit anti-war countries' economies. The annoying thing about all of this is that Iraq has...
Sorry, I only know about university level teaching. You can make something between 9,000 AED to 16,000 AED per month depending on the school, your yeas of experience, and whether you have a Masters or PhD or not. There are of course some other perks involved, like paid tickets home once a year etc. ...
