Well, was reading the paper today and one line reads, "Airlines including British Airways are estimated to have suffered losses as high as $95 million a day." Some people believe that the whole air terror plot is a conspiracy by the US and UK governments, but why would they make up such a ...

I've started with Emirates Driving Institute. I'm still awaiting a female instructor to be assigned to me, but I should be hitting the roads soon. (Watch out!) There was a slight delay as I had to send my paperwork back. They had written my name and nationality incorrectly on my driver's permit. :D ...

That's $95 million per day, not just $95 million. In the end it will be billions.

I agree with Chocs, it seems too elaborate for US and UK governments to come with such a conspiracy.

I'm also with Shaf though - let's see what the evidence brings.

Hi Corcs,

I am starting from scratch so am paying about 2000 AED, but you have already had a license so it will cost you less. You can find more info out here on their site and you can call them up. Al Quoz is probably the nearest branch to you. http://www.edi-uae.com/

Emirates has police testers, so if you fail your first test you can redo it within a week usually. At other schools you might have to wait up to 4 weeks or so to get another police tester to redo the test. That is the advantage of Emirates over some of the other schools. Does Belhasa also have polic...

I hardly see police around at all - I think there simply aren't enough of them. The only time I see them is when there is an accident and they have been called. I was under the impression that they only attend to incidents after-the-fact and didn't really do much preventative crime work

At Emirates Driving Institute I am not allowed to have a male instructor. Might be better that way because I will likely be a better driver - you know - being female and all.

Well, it was descrimination by non-whites against non-whites. Can't blame the whites for that. (I'm assuming the original poster meant they were whites.)

I pledge 100 AED. Any charity is fine with me, as long as it is one that gives the majority of what it receives to the actual cause, not to admin fees. (I hate those kinds of "charities".)

sniper, chevaliers is a troll. Just ignore him/her. As I said before, everyone should have to go through the same kind of increased security checks. Then they can randomly check for other things like drugs. I have been stopped twice at airports before. Once in Canada, once in the UK. I got asked all...

I feel sorry for some of these workers who get such a low salary that they depend on the tips they get.

If I am being blatantly ignored I will speak up and ask for staff assistance. I don't know why Arjun didn't think of that.

That's true Shaf, there is certainly too much hype about terrorism and Al Qaeda in particular when in reality the risks are quite low. Even my husband could have been killed or badly injured when a mentally unstable teenager set off a bomb in our local shopping mall in Finland. If it weren't for two...

Dubai Driving Center or Emirates Driving Institute? Cargirl, it was so funny how they spelled my name and put Phillipino for my nationality. My name and nationality were typed correctly on the accompanying document, and my pic was located right above it. I don't think I look remotely Phillipino eith...

I think DG is venting after reading various threads in the Politics and Religion forum. I have to admit that I too get pissed off when I keep seeing people bashing the West and blaming all their problems on the West. Shaf gives good advice because there are trolls who come here to post, trying to de...

Shaf, not all Westerners take pot shots at Arabs/Muslims.

I assumed from his/her posts that Chevalier could also be Serpent, and that this person was Iraeli.

Yes, well, you might call them a Westerner - seems everyone gets lumped in there. In any case, not all Westerners believe or support the same things that Israelis do.

I would have said the same as Shaf, but for question one I don't know. At first I thought more people might have known - but perhaps 100 would be too much - the plot would have unravelled if too many people knew about it. Perhaps Shaf's numbers of 40-50 are good.

Sorry, Shaf, I didn't say that the attacks were linked or that they were all Al Qaeda. I said that Islamic militants carried out the attacks - that is what they all had in common. I think that Al Qaeda is not able to function well anymore after troops went into Afghanistan and Al Qaeda leaders have ...

So Bush is responsible for Al Qaeda? Bush was not in office when Al Qaeda attacked the US embassies in Africa.

And so it should be disputed. As far as I know, only the embassy bombings and 9/11 were Al Qaeda - nothing since 2001... Hardly a large sinister group are they. :D

You have got to be kidding Sniper! There were no explosives in the building. I've seen a documentary that covered what happened structurally to the towers. You should be ashamed of yourself for believing such drivel.

There are some Arabs/Muslims who think that their cultures and religion are superior to everyone else's. In particular, the West is looked at as being rotten and immoral because of the more liberal attitude and cultural practices. Religion is separated from the state, which is seen as a weakness. On...
