Re: JLT another suicide

Bethsmum wrote:I wonder if he was a planker?

Some twit in Brisbane iced himself today "planking" on his 7th floor balcony. I think it is just Darwinism at work! I had never heard of this practice until today. Good thing the 6pm news had a big report on it, along with cool pics for the kiddies.

Re: Dreams anyone?

Cool topic for a change! My dream/goal/whatever is pretty much what I am doing right now, and am working on a "next level" thing for the future. I don't work very hard, have great wife and family, and great friends. Being in Australia has made me a bit more motivated though..the entreprene...

Re: Dreams anyone?

Nice DD! So what do you want to try your hand at next? I am looking at a few things actually. The father in law has a landscape business he wants to step away from, so there is that. Also have been looking at a few business opportunities in transportation here (not a truck driver) as well as a remo...

Re: Goodluck Johnson

I think you mean Goodluck Jonathan? Which makes it even more ridiculous. I noticed in Africa that many people have "odd" names....the reason being that they "translate" (which generally means randomly pick) a "Western sounding" name to go by, rather than a tribal name. ...

Re: Food Thread

Having just bbq'd for the first time in a year..it was "ok". I actually made carmelized onions for the steak, and they rocked! I used that allrecipes.com site as well. I bit of red wine and a sprinkle of cane sugar made the dish. I am really loving eating good, fresh food here in Aus. Sadl...

Re: Food Thread

Interesting, Dillon. Looks tasty enough, though. I think it is the name that is doing my head in. It does sound pretty gross, IMHO. Is it sweet? Any flavour at all? DDS, it was in a food hamper. You donate AUD $30 to the homeless via the community centre twice a week, and you get a "box of food...

Dubai knight or herve, have you guys done this trip many times before and recently?

Oh lord. I think Herve had a smashing success, although (I think) has only done it once. He did it in a different way, though.

One Martini Glass

So we just finished unpacking all 296 boxes that we relocated from Dubai, plus the 9 that we air freighted. And lo and behold...the only thing broken is one martini glass. Pretty impressive, and very surprising. We used a local company called DASA vs. one of the big international movers, and I am de...

Re: One Martini Glass

I think it was mostly DD's AV gear, but still over 300 boxes !!! How much gear, did you pack up pinewood studios ?? You would be correct.^ We had 2 of everything it seems...2 fridges, 2 lounge suites, 2 dining tables...etc. My studio gear was only about 50 of the boxes, honestly. We had 10 boxes of...

Re: Hey Everyone...again!

Hi Bushra...been ages! I am sure you have some stories to tell. I live in Australia now, but will be back in DXB in the coming days, so we should meet up! I think the last time I saw you was my birthday shindig back at Arabian Ranches!

Re: Airline prices

Having just gone BNE-DXB, I paid AED 9000. The same ticket going DXB-BNE was AED 7000. I am now looking at my next trip, looking at about AED 8000. Royal Brunei is still booking at about AED 5500, but they stop flying to BNE Oct. 26. I think EK is cashing in on their loyalty and service with the pri...

Re: UAE airports to start charging passengers for security

I kinda hafta agree with Chocs here. When I left Dubai last week, not one person was looking at the screen, and there was actually a great deal of giggling and flirting going on amongst the security personnel. Fortunately, I had about 30 kg of excess hand luggage and was glad no one noticed.

Re: How Was Your Day????

Been a few months since I posted last. I slept till 11am...drank coffee and chilled out poolside till about 2pm. I then went and hit the driving range and shot nine, came home, got back in the pool and read the paper. Made the Mrs. dinner before she went off to work, had a nap, watched some TV and a...

Re: How Was Your Day????

Can't say I am a huge fan of Golf, but there are 3 courses in the neighbourhood and the Father-in-Law is an avid golfer so I figured why not? Good way to kill an afternoon and have a couple of beers along the way in the sunshine!

Re: Daft things your pets do

As some of you know, I live on a canal in the Gold Coast, Australia now. One morning a fish showed up on my patio...a small one, but nonetheless, a fish. We have cats, so I thought it a bit odd as cats like to hunt, not scavenge, so I wasn't sure who brought the fish up. A couple of days later, one ...

Re: What's Happening This Week?

I am golfing everyday. Also BBQ'ing and soaking in the pool. It is mid 30's here and time to chill. I think I might be heading back to DXB in the coming days or weeks though! Sad for me, I know.

Re: Pets.

Thought I'd chime in for a sec. Firstly, hope you are all well, it's been a while for me! As Chocs can attest, I have a pretty demanding lifestyle Down Under and keep quite busy with the Golf, the Pub and the pool. I knew of Greenie's passing a while back, and glad that Douchefish is still going str...

Re: World's friendlest countries

I have to say, being a Canadian in Dubai was fine for me. It was friendly "enough". The thing that made me nuts there was the corruption and the fact that everyone has their hand in your pocket business wise. For a family holiday, the UAE is great, my wife and I had a great 2 week holiday ...

Re: One of Your More Embarrassing Moments?

Ok, I'll play along here. Mine was one of those OMFG moments that happened in Dubai. As many know, I have worked abroad for over a decade and you get to learn and use foreign terms (such as "yahlah or jaldy" in DXB). Anyway, it was 1999 and I took a job as a stage manger for a cruise line,...

I don't know how you guys do it anymore? I thank my deity everyday that i am out of there. They make it so hard just to have an existence these days. Re: DEWA Now Require Title Deeds For Connection

PropertyAgent , Well, I was being sarcstic, BUT, you DO need to submit your passport, residence visa, Emirates ID and whatever else is involved in getting a mobile under their "one identity" or whatever the scam/scheme is called. I have had the same number since 2007, but need to re-submi...
