Re: Weird Things Going On In Dubai..

Could be something to do with upped security specially after those dubious packages sent via here states side. The van could be just a conicidence unless its the same one following you around town, but I 'd think they would use a less conspicious car than a white van for that. Or simply because of ...

Re: Weird Things Going On In Dubai..

I have talked to friends in the tech business tonight. Apparently this is quite common with stuff the customs folks have not seen before. It usually ends with "ok, is fine, you go". Hopefully for me it will go that way. Also, I guess folks are using Dubai as a gateway to sell stuff to Iran...

Re: RIP Arniegang

Sorry to anyone that was offended. The thread is an example of how, in the context of this forum, arniegang went to great lengths, well beyond the call of any moderator, to determine the wellbeing of one of its members. Once again, sorry. please delete my post. I understand what you mean, benwj. Af...

Re: Weird Things Going On In Dubai..

Have I got a story to tell you all. I need to hit the sheets so I won't expand, as I am addressing Supreme Court tomorrow at 9. But I wasn't wrong, I've been watched and I have a meeting with the Director-General of customs and cargo tomorrow. The CID did not allow me to import the items as they fel...

Re: Weird things going on in Dubai..

Well, to get back on topic, I am fine after my tour of the ministries today! It has become ever so apparent today that the powers that be have no clue. It is very unfortunate that everyone from the DG to the gate guard at the Airport Freezone apologized for the disaster and for the person before. It...

This is just ridiculous , if all this trouble was caused due to a translation issue. Out of curiosity dd , are you planning to host our own VPN ? Thought I had better mention for some that know like DK, Chocs and Kanelli that I was victorious in my Supreme Court case. I love that Chris Rea track. Now that my guitar is in Australia, I cannot even belt it out! He has such a killer voice for a dude so small. It is perfect as I am sure you have been on "The Road to Hell" the past few weeks! This year, Mrs. DD and I are doing an orphan's Christmas. We know m...

Re: Weird Things Going On In Dubai..

Thanks all. I got a great call from the lawyer tonight. It seems the court is keeping the company's deposit of 10% of the value plus charging them fees as they felt it was a frivolous case. All-in-all, my ex-company is looking at about a 2-300k AED bill PLUS what they owe me. The past 2 years have s...

Re: White Christmas

Too bad I don't have a higher tolerance for alcohol - seems I can get hungover from just two pints of Guinness. C'mon, very fun to eat great food with friends, and play board games with a Depeche Mode live concert DVD going in the background. No need for anything scandalous to have fun. :) "Go...

Re: Emirates ID Card Deadline - 31st Dec

Re: Emirates ID Card Deadline - 31st Dec

dubaidawg - Thanks for the info dude. I have come to understand that this passport holding issue is not dictated by emarati law, then how can these companies commit this illegal action, judging by things going on in the uae, i am certain that reporting such action to the authorities would lead to v...

I dont celebrate christmas , but I do enjoy the christmas sale that goes on heh :) Since I left Canada, i haven't celebrated either. 1st year I was alone here and knew no one (so made a trip to Barracuda instead). 2nd year had all my family here, so had a big dinner (but no presents, tree, Santa or...

Re: Christmas Thoughts From The UK

Merry Christmas all. Me and the Mrs. just finished our fish n chips takeaway. We both worked today, then I hit the shops. 9:30 pm and we still need to clean the house, I need to wrap prezzies, and it was decided the missile launcher needs to move or a drunkard will spill something on it tomorrow. Lo...

Take the <div> thing off the link if you want to view the link. The guy in the link is an idiot. If I'm not mistaken, hotels are licensed so that the tourists don't need to be.

Canadians obviously not wanted here..

Check out the price tags at the bottom of the link! http://www.uae-embassy.com/Visas.html These guys are off their nuts! I can buy a residence visa for the same money as a 6 month multi-entry visa. I can tell you for certain that I know of two large oil companies that are no longer paying for visas ...

Re: Canadians Obviously Not Wanted Here..

It is because Canada denied Emirates Airlines landing rights to a bunch of other cities to "protect Air Canada". They got their panties in a bunch and imposed these rules. The official story is that the visa-waiver rule is for countries that have beneficial trade with the UAE! If you look ...

Re: If You Don't Have A Liquor Licence - Better Get One

That's all good, Sage, and I know we've discussed this Ad Nauseum. How do you explain Duty Free then? The temp license would require a visa stamp, which you would not have at Duty Free.

Re: Canadians obviously not wanted here..

Visitors from EU/USA and others that don't require a visa now get 30 days only, then a visa run is required. I think it has always been this way, although you can extend once for AED500 without leaving or even a drive to Hatta.-- Tue Dec 28, 2010 2:43 pm --Fingers crossed this one goes in the "...

Re: Canadians obviously not wanted here..

The prices are crazy! Wonder how long it will last until they realise they're losing too much business. I hope Canada screws them back. Currently it is CAD $75 for a multi-entry Visit visa for a UAE National, CAD $400 for an entire FAMILY. That is 1/14th the cost for an individual and if we conside...

Re: Canadians Obviously Not Wanted Here..

Well, intelligent countries work with their airlines to encourage tourism. Singapore offers an easy no-strings-attached stopover to people. No extra money when transiting on Singapore Airlines to stop over for 48 hours and see the place, they have a free bus service, etc. We do this all the time whe...
