I think too much saudi influence starting in the 80's specially after building the Sheikh Faisal Mosque and the cheaper rents turned Sharjah into the dump it is now.

Nah, I was a young un' then and really not bothered about such stuff. I thought it was actually cool to see the hardware out on the streets during the "toubles" :D Like the chopper parked in the emplty lot next to the Diwan and all the sandbagged posts manned by machine gun weilding dudes :D

Well raidah, what the point of the forum then. A person specifically asks wheter something is legal or not. You could at best say yes by law it is illegal but many have done it and gotten away with it, but considered your self warned. I worked in the tourist industry for better part of this century ...

True very true, Its still cheaper for us to live in DG and commute to AD 4 times a day in a V8 Then live in the crappiest shared villa room on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. Don't even think about moving on to the Island itself.
