Hi there, well when i read the first part of your post i thought, yes, there are a few things you can do. Like refusing to sign your work permit cancellation form, or even heading down to the labour office. BUT, the second part of your post puts it in perspective. Under the law if you worked on a Vi...

hi there, I know this may be a bit short and prehaps not very comprehensive, but here goes. All private businesses are operated according to UAE ledgislation, the simplist form of this is a partnership (49%- 51%) between yourself and a UAE/ national sponsor. They were going to amend this, but I'm no...

Well, at lively thread if nothing else! My 2 Fils worth is as follows: Long haired cats suffer a lot in the heat of Dubai, even if your apartment or villa is air-conditioned; we had and still have in fact, one (cat that is). This necessitates trips to the vet at least 5 to 6 times a year for shavin...

I'd like to add my comments for what they are worth. In Dubai when it comes to recruitment your qualification obviously holds some weight (due to the nature of the labour legislation), however most companies prefer to take candidates with "real world experience", and more particularly &quo...

if you look through the sticky section above, regarding the labour law/ contratc that i drafted a while ago, you will see that failure by the employer to pay the employee is considered "breach of contract" in the UAE/ Dubai labour law. If this is the case and you take the matter up with th...

just on another issue, just because a company doen't pay its salaries on time in the uae doesn't mean they are financially unsound. there are plenty of examples, of huge companies in the uae (talking about billions of dollars worth), not paying salaries on time, not because they have no money, but l...

:) don't expect it to be much different then - plenty of internal politics from what i have seen. what you do have to look forward to is: extended holidays - more than private sector tea break at 9 am, 10am, 11am, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm (if your'e still at work) "breakfast" at 8.30am, brunch at abo...

1k per month - :D :D :D

more realistically 5 - 10k per month, but don't expect it to be much more than that!

10k (UAE DHS) is not much when you compare it to british pounds or euros, but remember there is no tax to pay on it

Re: If Terminated...

Well you cannot terminate them for simply not being absent from work for 4 days. I believe the rule is 7 consecutive days before you can terminate them under that clause. If she is within her probation period you can terminate her without benefits. If she has worked her probation period, you have to...

Re: Cost Of Living In Dubai

Ok I had a look through the table (from numbeo.com) above and agree with all except one figure , which is the last... Average disposable income, this seems in the current economy to be very very high. Personally I earn a fair salary, but don't have anywhere near that figure left at the end of the mo...

Re: Levying Penalty On A Terminated Employee

Ah. Was about to answer, but see the question is old. In any case. The answer is no. Firstly you would have to have a formal non-disclosure agreement in place atipulating the penalty. Secondly if this was a serious breach it should have been reported to the police and a case opened. Most items under...

Re: The Ultimate Dubai BAN Guide

It depends on the type of contract that you have.
If it is a limited term contract then probably yes; if it is an unlimited contract you only need to complete 2 years in order to avoid the ban, although you need to have an NOC from your current employer allowing you to transfer.

Re: The Ultimate Dubai BAN Guide

Yes, with attested certificates; as well as that it is still within your probation period - although your employer may be justified in deducting "reasonable" recruitment and processing fees... strictly speaking they are not allowed to, but there is a small grey area in the labour law which...

Re: If Terminated...

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say, but firstly there is no such thing as 30 days termination salary. Under an unlimited contract The process is the employer or the employee gives the other 30 days notice of termination, the employee either works out the 30 day period or the employer waiv...
