Re: Eating Lunch (Restaurant) During Ramadan

Hey DF, I'm going to be visiting Dubai during Ramadan with a tour group. All our meals are provided for inside the hotels we're staying at, except for one lunch. I wanted to use that opportunity to try one of Dubai's "best restaurants" (verre, blue elephant, miyato, or anything else that ...

Re: Dubai : Feel Good Factors vs Feel Bad Factors

I actually started typing this out in response to a thread “feel good factors vs. feel bad factors” in the Expat Help Forum after I had got about halfway through I realised that well, this is cathartic (if perhaps incoherent at times) in a way and helps to get quiet a lot of “issues” off my chest be...

Touché Brilliant post Arnie, I must admit I did kind of have you in the back of my mind while I was writing  . This is not a knock at the property market, and I distinctly remember one of your first postings taking me to task over this very subject. I’ll be the very first person to admit that I...

Hi Arnie, no offence taken I promise :) - I appreciate the candour, as from past experience I know you to speak your mind. I was really trying to elicit some response to my (current) personal perspective on Dubai. A lot of what you said makes perfect sense. I agree with you 100% regarding the fluctu...

"For example a newly qualified teacher with no experience now starts @ £21k pa, that equates to 11,500 AED per month. I see the average wage for the same in Dubai is 6-9k per month. These expat teachers cannot be doing it for the money." Arnie, this is exactly what I was getting at, the lo...

no bad questions at all.. i'm a little tight for time this am, so will try to expand on it later. dubai = cosmopolatan. there are more expatriates in the uae than local uae nationals! there are some 200 odd nationalities represented in the local schools. that's my expat opinion - there are however s...

Soul i am not talking experienced teachers in the UK, i am quoting a salary for those newly qualifed out of Uni. They are not even paying the basic UK rate for teachers in dubai, let alone highly experienced ones. if that's the case - what is the drawcard for dubai? international experience?

Hi Sara... Most of the people on here are for real. Like most forums, we get the usual detritus of spammers and trolls and some dweebs who just like to write drivel or are morons who enjoy sticking pins in dolls, but you will find that the majority of the key posting personnel are genuine. I disagree with ban of food for none Muslims but does that make the holidays in Ramadan cheaper? well strictly speaking non-Muslims still eat, just not in public (or view of the public), a similar think happens in work canteens where non-Muslim staff still eat luch, but not in the presence of a Mus...

i think it is pretty simple to sift the wheat from the chaff in forums, unless you have a mulitple-personality disorder it would be very difficult to keep up the pretence of an alter-ego, especially where it is an open forum like this one and whatever anyone says is open to scrutiny. in any case, wh...
