m'fraid the whole country club scene is very "colonial" g&t's, tennis (when it's not to hot) or maybe even the polo club.... you'll either end up an alcoholic, broke, divorced ... or all of the above :) there are more than one clubs here as well, lots of hotels and resorts have their own clubs.....
okay, i'll grant you the time through the airport.... at best you can hope for is 30 min - if you happen to be a gcc national or have once of those frequent flyer cards that can get you through immigration in 5 min flat... does also depend on the time of day when you arrive, the rest of us plebs hav...
we should be compiling a book from this site and making some money out of it --- "collective essays from the land of the midday sun" or something like that..
we could have millions in royalties stashed away by the time they release us from jail!!!!!!
i cant wait to visit Dubai, but am so cautious huhh, so different country then mine... so i wanna know on what i have to watch out, mostly!!!?[/img] people like Liban - Don't worry... so ..... did kyle arrive? if he did ..... a) is he still sitting on his suitcase at the airport? b) is in the trunk of an illegal cab on the way to ajman? c) is he snuggled up in his hotel bed nursing a major hang-over? d) is he shacked up illegally with KC and the gang in the greens/ springs e) is ...
hi there, please define "compound villa", if you mean one of the older compounds in the middle of jumeria or um sequiem - unless you are a local/ uae national you can't own one....
Under UAE labour law a "working week" is defined as 48 hours, how this is achieved depends on your contract and sponsor. Some companies have a two day weekend, others only one day off. If you work in the retail, security or entertainment industry in the UAE the working week is 54 hours, after which ...
just a short comment on your labour contract comment. i agree make sure that as many things as possible are covered or clearly spelt out to make sure there is no miss-interpretation..... but now the big BUT .... if it is not covered in the Official Labour Contract that is lodged at the Department of...
I'd agree, if you work at Internet City look at "The Greens" its just across the road. When you get here or first arrive stay in a hotel or furnished appartment for the first 2 weeks - this may be a little pricy, but will save you a bundle ultimatley. Have a look at the prices of places/ appartments...
if you get put through the legal labour grinder you tend to pick up a few things :) although i see from your posting above that they are changing the job-hopping situation again! the sad thing is the poor sods at the immigration counters are the last to know that the law has changed, so they spend t...
hi there, i would suggest that you use the time before your visit to get your educational qualifications attested. if you are married and your wife intends working at some point, have her documents (qualifications)attested at the same time. if you are not married then you probably have all your hair...
chocoholic is right
you are the "bearer" of your passort which is in fact a government document belonging to your country of residency. no one may hold or retain it without a legal reason.
this applies to sponsors in the uae as well
they are not allowed to hold your passport. they can make a copy of it and keep the copy for thier records. the only reason a hotel may want to keep a guests pasport is if they feel the bill may not be settled; although they will normally ask for a credit card to swipe as insurance. if they want to ...
My work hold my passport and I am not happy about it! I am trying to summon up enough energy to argue about it - has anyone got any legal info on this that I can use as back up? yes, the issue about sponsors holiding onto passports came up a while back in the media. as i said above, you are the leg...
:) labour inspectors and the cid can and do ask to see you labour cards. if you are a labourer in this country most things revolve around your labour card and not passport. the labour card is used as an id card when going into many government buildings and free zones. hence the majority of the workf...
i agree, one of the larger construction companies should be able to provide a decent package. he will need to be certified/ licensed here before he can work. i'll see if i can find out the procedure. make sure he brings his CERTIFIED (uae consulate) certificates with him!
one of my staff just got held trying to get into ja free zone without his labour card (he forgot it in the office). cops held him until someone brought the card for him and fined him 30 aed!
had a quick chat with a friend of mine. you have to bring your attested documents with you! dubai municipality conducts trade tests once a week for "engeneering proffesionals" i.e. people who have a quailification which needs to be endorsed or attested. the cost is about 500 dirhams for the test. yo...
i thought de vinci code was brilliant, compelling, a real page turner - read it in one sitting. angels & deamons was pretty good, and digital fortress so-so. whether it's based on "fact" or not... i think that the whole purpose of the book is for people to challenge the accepted facts and open t...
if this is your first trip out here i don't envy you....... remember this when you walk out of the air conditioning at the airport ..... have you ever worked in a pizzaria??? :evil2: a good, concise description of the summer weather ... in one word.... shit ..... shit ..... shit ..... shit ......
still hot, but much better by comparison to august! about what it was like in may/ june. sometimes it cools down gradually after mid-summer, and sometimes very quickly within the space of 2 or 3 weeks it has dropped by about 15 degrees (C).
i see the company you mentioned is no longer listed with the Dubai Department of Economic Development. There is however ABAAD AL SHARQ CONTRACTING (L.L.C) ph. 04 - 3329975 if this is of any use to you..
