115k would get you a nice 2br apartment at the moment; rentals are down at the moment and landlords more willing to negotiate. 65k is a good amount to set up furniture and appliance wise, at the moment there is also a lot of second hand odds and ends being advertised (dubizzle.com and others) as a g...

check what type of contract you have, just because it is for 3 years it does not mean that it is a "fixed" contract. almost 99% of contracts issued are 3 years in duration, because thats how long your residency is valid for. look on the contract for "limited" or "unlimited&q...

yes, unfortunatley, the ban is extended to persons while still under probation - in my opinion one of the most unfair of labour practices. on a limited contract this would even be worse as you have to work out the full contract duration to avoid being banned. the ban would be imposed irrispective of...

It depends on the type of contract you have, if you have a 2 year LIMITED/ FIXED TERM contract then, yes you would be entitled to the gratuity at the end of the contract. If you are employed on an UNLIMITED contract then you would only receive a small portion of your gratuity as per the regulations...

Re: Non-compete clauses - enforceable?

First thing, the UAE is not Europe, so none of the commonly accepted niceties such as compensation are an option. All legal cases pertaining to UAE law can only be contested or tried in the UAE; the UAE does not recognise judgments that may be made outside of the country. I’m assuming that your prev...

Re: Advice needed

This is pretty typical for the Gulf, the employer asking the employee what they expect. Have a look at some of these earlier postings I did for some guidelines. Ask for at least 30% more than what you actually want to settle on, there is a whole haggling routine involved.  http://www.dubaiforums.co...

Good question. Technically yes they should pay it out, as one contract was ended and a new one entered into; practically however I have my doubts. You also understand that as you have signed a new contract you are also subject to a new period of probation (probably 3 months); as such I wouldn't make...
