if your'e considering it make sure you get everything singed and sealed before you leave your current employment; as you may have noticed from other postings there is a fair downturn in the local economy - although i think it will be relativly short-lived. most companies here are cost cutting and sh...

Thanks for the tips. One business prospect that I've been asked about getting involved with is an online niche job board. My question is with regards to whether it would even need to be registered in Dubai. no; you don't have to be registred in the UAE - although there are already a number of on-li...

hi there, yes this sounds about right. they normally start off with the letter calling the employer to an arbitration meeting. the employer/ sponsor has to appear in person not his/ her PRO. if they don't turn up for the meeting the next step is they issue a Federal Labour summons on the employer, i...

You will not be banned if you work out your full 36 month period of your un-limited contract, at the end of month 35 simply submit a letter to your employer stating that you have chosen not to renew your contact – not that you are resigning. You are quiet welcome to contact the department of labour ...

there is no rule. rental contracts are governed by a contract and the contract is negotiated between the two parties.

service charges are negotiated and stipulated by contract. in the current economic climate these are very negotiable.

have they started any labour approvla process? if not you can leave without any problems. try and get your salary at the end of the month if you can and then simply call in and tell then you won't be returning. if they pay you by checque make sure that the check clears before you do this

define "loose contract", there is an official contract document that has to be submitted/ registred with the dubai municipality. this is the one that is legally binding. if you do not have one then you do not have a legal contract and are basically at the mercy of the landlord

tennacy contracts have had to be registered with the DM for at least the past 8 years in order to be effective. the rent control board is relatively new, but has also been in existance for at least 4 or 5 years. i agree, trying to fight something like this is a waste of time. contracts in the UAE ar...

probation runs both ways. you can leave if you want to during the period, but as bonk and myself pointed out, companies don't take to this well as you have to understand that they actually pay a fairly substantial amount of cash to get you to this point; granted the labour deposit can be transfered ...

I'm most interested to hear about expats experiences of living and working in Dubai, particulary in the current economic climate. I was wondering if this is something any of the members ...

i'd look at applying directly to some of the hospitals and clinics; many will not use a recruitment agency due to the high placement fees they would have to pay on a specialsit position. Correction! Al-Bashir invited/bought-in the Chinese to gain political protection from China. Sudan agrees to sell the bulk of its oil production to China and form a defence in common interests against the genocide allegations from the US and R.o.W. It was a long awaited move from Sudan to get China...

agreed, sorry, but there is not much you can do about it :( although i do see some merit to the calim. firstly the PRO would have to admit to having accepted money for processing of a visa application, which by law is illegal - the company would aslo be to blame as irrispective of whether it was &qu...

many company's are doing this at the moment, they want to retain the staff, but are forced to cut overheads, the only way they can do this is to give "long leave" - normally without benefits. huge part of the problem (due to the economic climate) is there is no precedence to follow (be it ...

3. What drives expats to leave when the time comes to move on from Dubai? :) good question; i left, i came back. depends on the industry you are in (some expats are migrant by nature and follow the work around) and what your personal long-term objectives are. Please note: There is no longer anything such as a "ban lifting fee", this went out about 4 years ago. As it stands there is no such fee, hence it is not covered by the Labour Law. Actually it was never covered by the Labour Law in the first place, but was simply a local (Dubai) deviation ...
