This is a very odd and grey area according to the law. If you had simply finished your initial 3 year period then there would be no ban. But as the contract has extended you could again be eligible to be banned! I know this sounds very odd, but the law is not very clear on this. As you are aware gra...

agreed; bear in mind the uae is pretty much isolated and only self-sufficient in a few minor products - the rest are imported - this includes food stuffs, clothes, vehicles etc.... as such those prices are not likely to drop drastically

Its sad to hear that the economic downturn has come to Dubai too! But nevertheless, I am determined to try it still, although wanting a job before I arrive there. My other option is to take the MBA in Dubai, so I would be "covered" for a while anyway. When are you leaving to Dubai? I trus...

This is exactly two lines taken out of an entire article. What about where the same person who is quoted above states: “However, more action need to be taken as the country passes through an unwinding course with regard to the asset bubbles created by the speculative inflow of abundant liquidity,” h...

No restrictions, although you may find weight to be an issue when you consider your luggage. I did have an odd encounter once when i brought a stone carved snake through customs and they asked why I had a snake in my luggage and where my permit was ... :) Don’t expect a huge margin on these items th...

No, leave is accumulated at a specific rate irrespective of whether you are an unskilled labourer or a rocket scientist. The rate is specified by law and is not subject to bargaining. The employer has no right to tamper with the accumulated leave of an employee. As the leave is actually specified by...

Hi there. First thing, don't confuse visa with labour card. These are two sperate things.... The ban is placed on labour after the labour card is cancelled with the department of labour. The visa (immigration/ residency) is normally cancelled at the same time as the labour card, BUT you have 30 days...

That sounds strange... Learning institutions in Dubai are offering distance learning for people who are working....so this must mean that you can indeed work and at the same time study. If you study with your own funds, you should be able to work as well. it is on your free time that you are a stud...

try removing the battery, not just switching it off/ on.
remove it and replace it after about 10 seconds - then see if the phone powers up

Howzit, Your original qualifications need to be attested at the Department of Education, then the Department of Foreign Affairs In Pretoria; then they have to have a final attestation done at the UAE consulate in Pretoria. The process takes about a day, more than likely two if you have someone who c...

the attestation is done on a copy (at the UAE consulate), the original is returned to you.

you have to submit the original documents though as proof - they will not attest a copied document.

Agreed, a more eloquent way of putting it. The MOL does indeed have the original, as per law all increases/ decreases and disciplinary procedures against an employee are supposed to be lodged with the MOL so that your "central labour record" (for want of a better term) is kept up to date. ...

So it boils down to the fact that without the attestation I will not get a working VISA? Just to be clear! crystal! Without attested documents you cannot be issued with a labour card. Without a labour card/ labour approval you will not be able to get residency/ a residency visa. The only way that y...

The leave is fixed as per labour law as: 24 days leave for the first year of service. Most employers simply give 30 days as it is easier from an administrative perspective. 30 days leave per one calendar year service thereafter. The law also make provision for the settlement of outstanding "lea...

Thanks for the feedback; some good questions and hopefully I can provide some of the answers or a little more insight at least: 1. Normally this issue is never covered in an interview as most new employees have no idea that two types of contract even exist. A company will normally make use of a spec...

Agreed, moving around as an expat is a big gamble to say the least. What she needs to do is limit her financial risk/ exposure if she is considering a move. i.e. don't ship the kids, dogs, cats and rabbits out on the fist available flight. Work out the probation period. [Ansa, there is a minimum man...

Limited contracts are worse! They are not employee friendly. There is not 3 month notice period. The law states that the party breaking the limited contract must compensate the other party 3 months salary, but does not have to pay more than 50% of that. In effect if you are terminated on a limited c...

They call it UNLIMITED CONTRACT yet it will expire after 2 or 3 years. hi there, yes. limited contracts were initially designed with specific tasks or jobs in mind (much like the current mission visas). unlimited are re-negotiable and therefore "unlimited" by comparison. yes, confusing

1) Interesting, so theoretically speaking, the FZ could put in a minimum 5-year work length just as easily as it could impose no such rule at all? So even in the case their minimum length is less than the UAE’s 1 year, am I correct in thinking that one could hypothetically leave the job after a day ...

Re: Too old for Dubai?

Hi all, Is it true that expats over 60 years old can no longer work in Dubai? If so, then 58 would be the the last chance to seek a job (providing regular 2 year contract applies) The ministry of Labour can waiver this regulation, but only in specific cirmustances where the sponsor feels that ther ...

Check with the specific Fujairah FZ authority offices (located within the FZ), they will be able to provide you with the inforamtion. As it is a FZ visa the NOC from your sponsor is of little value!
