Camel meat

I'm surprised I didn't find places offering camel meat. In my visits to Kenya I was able to get it, and it tasted very nice!

Any places that spring to mind that offer it?

Salaries in Dubai/Abu Dhabi

Is there any site listing the salaries of what people earn in Dubai/Abu Dhabi? E.g., http://www.glassdoor.com. I'd just like to get a rough estimate on what people in my profession in the said regions make.

Wearing a dishdasha

⋅  Is it correct that only nationals are to allowed wear the dishdasha*? ⋅  Is wearing a dishdasha to work allowed or does one need to wear the headgear etc. along with it? If you're lazy, wearing it would be just wonderful - pop it on, head to work. * Long dress-like garment, g...

Re: Wearing a dishdasha

You can wear a dishdash without the headgear. I have an Emirati friend who, occasionally does not wear his headgear. Early morning, for instance . In my opinion, if you are not local, you look incredibly daft wearing a dishdash. I don't think you will be taken seriously, working in an office enviro...

Arabian Oud

Does anyone else prefer Arabian perfume over "Western" ones? OK ... some are very strong, but there are others which are truly splendid. The oils tend to be very strong, the sprays aren't.

Rank these airlines

Hello, Please rank these airlines for flying to and from Dubai. Gulf Air Emirates Ithad Qatar Airways I'm aware that Ithad only flys to Abu Dhabi. To get to Dubai one has to use a coach (or is it a bus) which, supposedly, takes 1 hr 30 minutes. Can someone who has flown with Ithad please confirm if ...

UK bank paying mortgage in UAE

Does anyone have a UK bank paying mortgage on a property in Dubai? I've been told to take out a mortgage in the UAE, I need to be a resident. I obviously don't have the money to buy the property outright.

Re: Rank These Airlines

What's the baggage allowance like on these carriers? I used Virgin recently and I was given One suit case: max 23kg One hand luggage: 7kg. Last time I flew with Gulf Air (to Abu Dhabi) the allowance was higher, on the the return flight I went over the allowance by a considerable amount and they simp...

Safi Qurashi's open letter from Dubai jail cell

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... -cell.html

How true is this? If what he says is true (a bounced cheque made him end up in jail), I'd be totally shocked.

Car park

Given the number of buildings in Dubai, let's say the buildings were half occupied how would the residents find the parking places for their cars? From what I've seen the underground parking isn't enough.

Re: Car Park

Chapter 3? Half occupied would mean plenty of spaces available. In general, buildings allow for at least 1 spot for each apartment. In cases such as 3 bedroom apartments, generally 2 are provided. Then there are extra spots that can be rented if 2 spots are needed and one was allocated. On to chapt...

Dubai or Abu Dhabi events in London

I remember career events centred around working in the middle east in my undergrad days. Do they still run them, if so are there any worth attending? Any info would be great. Thanks

Re: Wearing A Dishdasha

Thank you for the writeup, Dubai Knight - very informative.

I'm going to have one made in the Saudi style with pearl buttons. Can someone recommend a tailor?

Re: Wearing A Dishdasha

I'll wear it in Dubai. I'll also have it made there when I visit again. I don't think I would entrust a UK tailor with making an Arab piece of clothing.

LOL! I feel as though you deliberately picked out the funniest picture. BTW, I was asking for tailors in Dubai.

Re: Tips For Learning The Arabic Language

I think the the best thing to do is the learn how to permute the root verbs and lots of practice reading and speaking. So, if you have the root verb kataba (To write), if you know how to permute the verb, you've already learnt a decent amount of vocab; past tense kataba; he wrote katabat; she wrote ...

Re: Tips For Learning The Arabic Language

You can learn that kind of Arabic ( book Arabic ) but don't expect it to go too far in the real word with it as no one in the Arab world speaks like that. Its like learning English from Shakespear. What Arabic do they use in the news, in formal functions and text? It surely isn't street lingo. And ...
