Re: Escape From Dubai-by Herve

Hello, Bora. What other books? Let me get it back on topic. Herve, I once said somewhere along the line that when you came out with your story it was probably bad timing - Dubai was great, people still making tons of money, all was great. Had you revealed your story when Dubai started to crash and t...

Re: Where to meet friends and girls in Dubai?

The people I were with, who live in a neighboring country, said you could get arrested for talking to a girl on the street/mall etc. How true is this? That said, I still spoke to a few fairly attractive girls but purposely didn't want it to lead anywhere 'cause I was on a short stay.

Software Engineer C++ Financial Sector

I was hoping to ask you all how I would go about apply for a job in Dubai. I just came back from holiday there and I really liked it. I could see myself working there. There's a few things I'd like to ask; 1. Shall I stick to my current job, which I started shortly after graduating and have a year's...

Approaching local girls in shopping malls

Hi,

What's the correct way, inline with the custom, of approaching a local (Arab Emirate) that you see on in the mall or on the street? Apparently it's tabo to do so.

Re: Rise In The Number Of Local Spinsters

The hijab is based on the notion that men are pigs. Really? Please provide your evidence. Because what I read states otherwise. 33. Surah Al-Ahzab Verse 59. O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e.screen th...

(Road) bike community in Dubai / Abu Dhabi

Any (road) cyclists here? I saw a few brave cyclists on the way to Dubai Friday morning at around ~07:00ish on the main highway!!! I guess that's the only time the roads are empty. I'm beginning to think Dubai would probably be the best place to do a time trial when the weather is just about right -...

That's besides the point, but feel free to read the commentary of the verse I quoted; http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=33&tid=42193 . Also, it's over the top according to your standards. Just because a certain group of people decide to do somethings differently, which doesn't fit into your ...

Re: Snowhite?

I asked a Saudi I meet whilst queuing up at Ferrari World, where the queues were absolutely horrendous. He said it's 'cause they don't know how to apply make-up. I agree with noni, below. I'm starting to think it's a cultural thing. A sad thing about beauty is that society dictates it. When "th...

Entry to University of London

Do the colleges in Dubai/Abu Dhabi (AD) provide a good entry to the leading UK universities? I'm thinking about the Universities of London group and a few others (Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial etc.). Could someone please list the best colleges that are recognised by UK institutes, ranked accordingly.

What's Mall-cred? If you turn up at mall Of The Emirates in a rickshaw, you're gonna get a rickshaw type of girl. If you want an Emirati you need to up your game. Cheap skate doesn't cut it with these girls. Are you speaking from experience or is this pure conjecture? PS. Picking up girls isn't the...

Re: Heads up to new expats moving to Dubai

I've been in this country for 6 months now, and the biggest culture shock I've experienced here is how the locals can do whatever they want without any consideration to others. No matter if they are driving head-on wrong on a one-way street, or breaking the red light, or cutting ques at a restauran...

I've noticed a few members use all sorts of abbreviations. It's really annoying to read. Either type English proper, or don't write anything at all.

I'm sorry if that come out harshly, It's just the way I feel.
