Even if the government is happy to have these kinds of laws they hardly want them splashed over the front pages worldwide. Bad for tourism. What kind of laws? I think it's quite reasonable to have laws that forbid having s ex on the beach (or behaving indecently) in public in broad daylight, and ab...

It is down to education. People should be aware of the local cultural situation. That's so patronising to the UAE. It is culturally unacceptable to behave as they were reported to have done, in every country I've ever been to. People should be aware of what is common sense. Similarly, a muslim woul...

So is this topic about the couple getting drunk and then behaving indecently in public? Or about the conservative laws in the UAE to do with living together, sharing a car with a person of the opposite s ex, how to dress, unmarried couples sharing hotel rooms, drinking alcohol in public, drinking wi...

There's an easyhotel under construction near the post office. But I don't know how close to being finished it is, or when you want a hotel for. Holiday Inn Express just opened one in Jumeirah off Sheikh Zayed Rd which may be a bit far away, Ibis Trade Center is closer.

I'm not a nurse but I would guess unless you get into one of the more expensive private hospitals (American, Welcare, City), then conditions are not going to be as good as in Oz. There's a large supply of Filipino nurses that work for low wages relative to western countries.

Silicon Oasis is closer to DAC than Int. City, but more expensive. UK licence conversion should be straightforward. You can drive rental car with UK licence while on visit visa. Once you get residence visa you must have UAE licence to drive. More here UAE change driving licence :).

Doesn't an employment visa just expire after a month or two if not used? I'm assuming the OP is talking about an employment entry visa / permit, not a work permit that's applied for after entering the UAE.

If you're coming to Dubai for a visit, ask at airline or travel agent for a tourist visa. Or if you have a relative here, they can sponsor you for a visit visa (but the rules are stricter now).

You and seller need to go to police traffic department and transfer ownership. Cost for you should be about 500 dhs but bring 1000 dhs just in case I'm wrong. Insured up to August 2009? Did you do that? If not, then double check, it may not be insured for you as new owner. More here ... Dubai car re...

A multiple re-entry visa for where? GCC expat residents can get a 30 day visit visa for AED 100 dhs on arrival in the UAE according to the DNRD website, but only certain designations (which I think means it depends on job title but I can't find any official clarification of that). You need to show y...

Re: Help A Noob Live Near Internet City / UOWD

I need some cheap accommodation in a place which comes in closer to Dubai internet city and UOWD.. How cheap? There's not much around that area that's cheap. Share a villa in Sufouh, Umm Suqueim, or Jumeirah costs 5k-8k per month for a room. Share an apartment in Barsha or Dubai Marina for 3k-6k fo...

Does anyone know where lower paid workers are staying and in what conditions? Mostly either in staff accommodation, probably sharing rooms, 2-200 employees per room, or shared rooms in apartments in Deira, Al Ghusais, Al Quoz, Karama, or villas in Rashidiya (if they haven't been thrown out yet). It's a good enough area to live with a large number of 7 floor buildings. Apartments all look much the same and are fairly plain but are reasonably spacious and of a good standard. Area is off Sheikh Zayed Road near Internet City. You could do worse and would struggle to do much better. Here's more ...

You'll probably pay a fine of a couple hundred dirhams when you register car again. It doesn't seem to matter how late you are - I was 3 months late once and still paid less than 200 dhs. Don't let insurance expire though.

Well, I didn't say they were cheap :). I don't know what they charge for short term lets but I'd guess most furnished 1 bdrms of a high standard would be around 15k-20k per month, and 2 bdrms maybe 20k-25k.

Metro will start by September 2009. Catch taxis the first week or two then consider rental. Dubai is difficult to navigate and traffic jams slow you down.
