Canadians are in the list of nationalities that get a free visa on arrival so they can still easily do a UAE visa renewal (change visa at Oman border). There were conflicting comments from various officials about visa renewals before and after the new visa regulations. How long residency takes depen...

They don't get informed of anything, so they don't need to know. That depends on the company. As the company is your sponsor, they could be responsible for your bank debts, telephone bills, DEWA etc, and so some feel they are obligated to inform the bank as soon as you give notice. I expect most co...

Your residence visa will be dependent on your sponsor. If employer is your sponsor then you'll get Fujairah visa. If you get a student visa, I guess you'll get a Dubai visa (I'm not so sure about student visas - does the college sponsor you?). The residence visa does not restrict you to living in th...

Ok. My post was based on comments from authorities ...

"There is no rule that visitors have to return to their home country to renew visit visas. At DNRD, we only check whether they left the UAE or not," Bin Surour said.

Re: New design for Dubai Forums

If when you log in the old design appear - change the style in you profile from "subsilver" to "dubai" Sounds like some people may have missed this? Seems to work fine for me. Although I'm getting logged out more frequently recently but I think that might be an IP security issue...

Re: Living in Dubai vs Sharjah

living in Sharjah and working in Dubai! Expect to spend 4 hours a day in your car - 2 each way. Plus the occasional extra hour or 2 when there's a crash holding up traffic even more. There's a good reason Sharjah is cheaper for accommodation. If I wasn't going to work for a year, I'd far rather liv...

Do an Oman visa renewal trip. It should still be good for UK passport holders.

Yes, that sounds right.

A residence visa on its own does not allow you to work anyway.

Do you have any problems with accessing Dubai forums or logging in? Faster yes. Nice one :). But when I click on the "View posts since last visit", I always get no posts found (for the past 2 or 3 weeks). Not sure about logout problem (was frequently getting logged out), seems fine so far...

Re: Being Female in Dubai

How easy is it to meet hot western men? Best place is elevators in summertime. Everyone is hot then, and they'll be really sweaty and smelly too ;). 1. Good fun. 2. Not very. 3. Very. 4. Don't know but more than enough for most people. 5. Easy if you're hot too. 6. Very easy. Finding a good one is ...

It can vary depending mostly on the company and how much effort they make. The Halliburton boss probably had it waiting for him on arrival. Other companies take months or even longer. If they say it's in process, that might just mean your passport is still sitting on the PRO's desk. Once documents a...

Re: How to get an employer visa?

blilign wrote:Can anybody tell me how to get a an employer visa?

You mean an employment visa? A company issues one after you accept a job, which allows you to enter the country. If you want to visit the UAE to look for a job then you need a visit visa or tourist visa for Dubai.

An employment visa allows you to enter Dubai. A residence visa is applied for by your sponsor once you've arrived, and should take a couple of weeks but can take longer if they're lazy.

Sybarite is a design/architect company, not a property developer. The fact you can't find anything is an indication it may not be realised. Usually skyscrapercity.com is a good place for property stuff but I couldn't find anything there that is different from what you found on the sybarite site.

Great place to learn, and practice if you're a novice. Good fun for an hour or two if you're intermediate and with friends. Gets boring after that, especially if you're a good skier / snowboarder. Definitely worth a visit if you're a tourist, if nothing else just for the experience of going to a ski...

If you want to live close to work then an apartment in DSO is a good choice, but like C says, you're a long way from anything else. Int City not much better. My choice would be throw in a few extra dhs yourself and find a studio in Dubai Marina.

Knowledge Village has an administrative office too, and they should be helpful. I think Dubai Academic City is a free zone but administered by KV. The schools/colleges in KV are supposed to move to DAC eventually and leave KV for training institutes and service companies. Or something.
