Allow 1 to 2 hours each way on Sheikh Zayed / Al Khail / Emirates Rd. Most traffic going in opposite direction but it's still busy, and a long way. Maybe 50 km? Travel further via 611 Road but probably quicker, if it's open all the way.

No bottleneck at National Paints? I used to do a similar drive and it was quick. I just assumed it was more choked up now. Sorry to OP. Perhaps less than an hour is more accurate then.

Try a visit visa - good for 60 days (not 2 months - be careful). Renewable twice, maybe longer for some countries.

Try this - Dubai living costs

$40k should be enough to get you a good 2 bedroom apartment, maybe a 3 bdrm if you're lucky or not too fussy.

How long is a piece of string ;)?

A month should be long enough to either get a job, or be in a position to know if you'll get one.

I have been told I cannot sponsor him because I'm female and females can't sponsor males. Who told you? It's more difficult but I thought it was possible. Ask your company PRO to try. Nationality and profession probably makes a difference. I used to use a travel agency - they'd charge 500 dhs per v...

I think if you have a Sharjah visa, you have to organise visitor sponsorship from Sharjah immigration. I'd expect them to be more difficult than Dubai especially if non-Muslim female sponsoring unrelated Muslim male. Try some tour agencies and ask if they can arrange sponsorship. I know I used one i...

would like to bring my wife's nice Niece? If she has a passport from some countries, she can renew visitor visa easily every 2 months. I could be wrong. My information is a few years old, but people do drive across Saudi from the UAE so I assume it can be done from other bordering countries. Maybe try calling the Saudi embassy in Qatar? It also happens that beauracrats to say something can't be done because then you go away and don...

Arabic is not always necessary depending on which hospital you work in. You're unlikely to get a good package in a Government hospital (where it would help to speak Arabic), one of the private hospitals (where you won't need Arabic) will probably offer more. What's against you is the large number of...

Re: Desktop Problem

I went to Radio Shack and bought a 300 w convertor to convert 110 V to 220 V. If that was to convert supply voltage then you ended up with 440 V across your computer since it's a 2x converter. Which would explain the bang. Another place to go is compume in Garhoud or Mall of the Emirates, or Sharaf...

I understood that trucks or pickups could be registered by individuals - there was a change in the rules a year or two ago. However, in practical terms it may not be so easy. One person I know who got one registered only succeeded with the assistance of some wasta in the end.
