Try contacting oil companies directly - read a book called What color is my Parachute first. Or if that's too much, read about jobs in Dubai. If you're a marketing manager, think about finding a job as a marketing project. :).

Here's some recruitment agencies in Dubai that may be worth trying.

That makes sense. It's relatively cold for Dubai today.

here is fine instruction how salik (clear) works in Dubai http://dubaiforvisitors.com/2008/01/06/how-salik-works-in-dubai/ You should complain to the Gulf News. Most banks want 5000 dhs minimum for current account, and a residence visa. HSBC may be an exception for current account without residence visa. National Bank of Abu Dhabi might open current account for lower minimum (1000 dhs?). RAK Bank another possibility. Here's a list of banks in Dubai Deal wit...

No bank will give a current account without residency, it is the law because they are not allowed to issue credit cards and cheque books to any non resident. I saw a reference in one of those magazines with a table of bank accounts etc (MoneyWorks?) to HSBC being an exception. Maybe it was a saving...

without finding any such annoucement yet. It's not a new rule, just stricter implementation of an old rule. Search gulfnews.com or khaleejtimes.com for articles (best done with google rather than their own searches). The above 2 sites are not great for up to date information although uaeinteract ha...

Re: Buying property

I heard a rumour that expats are now allowed to purchase property in Dubai and apply for citizenship. Is this true? No. At least not that I've seen. Expat property purchase was allowed from a few years ago. Residency visa available for property owners. UAE citizenship possible but unrelated to prop...

Re: Hotels in driving distance to Dubai Men's College

Are there any hotels near Dubai Men's College? No. Ibis near the trade center roundabout is cheap-ish. New one (holiday inn / Express) in Knowledge Village is cheap-ish and maybe easier access to DBM although further away. Don't stay in Deira or Bur Dubai - traffic will keep you there. Here's a lis...

Go to the Al Awir car market to get an idea (but assume everything there is dodgy).

Look in Gulf News ads.

Find out new car price and depreciate 30% for first year, 20% each year after that. Modify depending on brand. Japanese and Mercedes depreciate less, American depreciate more.

Yes, far more is right. I seem to remember a 2 week period of rain every day almost all day. And at times hosing down much more than the drizzle we had today.

Was that the year the trade center underpass filled up with water?

Yes indeed, several people got their vehicles fully submerged

One hopes they worked for Scuba Dubai?

I think some scuba divers went into the underpass for a look.

You should complain to the Gulf News. Even worse, they've time-stamped it to make it look like they wrote it 6 months before you did. I was being sarcastic. Gulf News had the original content (although they're not 100% innocent - I saw some of my content in their newspaper once, verbatim, passed of...

visas and bans

I'm not a lawyer so add a pinch of salt to my post before you digest it. The employer is liable for all visa costs, not the employee, in the UAE (here's more about UAE employment visas and working in Dubai ). My understanding is that if you break a fixed term contract then the company can claim cost...
