Apparently car lift / pool is illegal in this country. But how is this being regulated? Beats me! Private taxi is illegal. Car pool is not. Yes, and even managed to renew in Dubai while I had a RAK visa. Had to have a converstion with the boss at the traffic department though.

Not as far as I know. "Possible" and "legal" are two different things. If you go to places like the Barracuda, you'll see people showing an alcohol licence sometimes.

Drive on your licence while you have a visit visa if you rent a car. Try and get an International Driving Permit before you get here but it probably isn't a big deal if you don't.
