I think that's unusual in most countries (except for Australia/NZ)?

Dubai Taxi offer a similar service, not shared though.

Private taxis do this (but are illegal and sometimes get fined).

Or try www.mecarpool.com

Re: Single woman's life in Dubai

1. It's generally safe to walk around alone at night. Naif Square is a bit dodgy. Women walking alone late at night are sometimes assumed to be prostitutes which could lead to arrest (unlikely if you're obviously a westerner), or ending up richer by the time you get home. Sometimes people get picked...

Bus X25 is an express one that doesn't stop at all stops (especially the one I was waiting at on Jumeirah Beach Road). New bus maps available at bus stations. rta.ae say the route map can be found on their site but I didn't have any luck. They also have a "journey planner" which I vaguely ...

Re: A car lift is required

Car lifting is against the law in this country. Not quite. The RTA claim to want to support car pooling but the authorities seem to have trouble distinguishing between private taxis (illegal) and car pools (not), fining friends and colleagues for giving each other lifts. As you say though, private ...

Repton Dubai - some info. Presumably they'll aim to be comparable to the UK Repton School which, whilst not quite Eton or Harrow, still rates as one of the better (and more expensive schools). Other emirates still via traffic police. Usually driving licence comes from same emirate as your visa. Licence valid for all...

The employment visa is probably for you to enter the country, not a work permit - for which your original passport needs to be submitted. I don't think you need an NOC to back out of the job at this stage. It would be considerate to inform them though. If you sent original certificates, they may not...
