EIS is good enough, not great. Better in the primary school. Don't know much about Horizon but think it probably rates much the same. In general, try and find a school near where you live. Traffic is a nightmare. The forums expatwoman.com and expatgossip.com have lots of school questions. More infor...

You mean 5000 dhs per month? You won't get anything near the Marina except maybe a room in a shared villa or apartment.

For studio you'll have to try International City. For 1 bdrm maybe an older place in Ghusais, or Karama, or Deira.

Try and get a hotel package with your flight. It's usually the cheapest way. I saw adverts recently for two companies that offer serviced apartments, I think in Dubai Marina. One had 650 dhs per night as a cheapest rate. Can't remember which but you'll find information here - hotels in Dubai or chea...

Re: Banks in Dubai and FDs

Intenet banking is the way to go. That way you only get hassled by Itisalot (aka Etisalat). I beg to differ. To paraphrase a certain Mr Orwell, ... some internet banks are more equal than others... Here's a list of banks in Dubai but it doesn't give a recommendation (and explains why). I went inter...

There's a couple of new hotels in Downtown Burj Dubai area with at least one good bar. Madinat Jumeirah is a bit further away but worth a look with bars and restaurants and electric gondolas. At the other end of the scale, try some chilli chicken at Ravi's in Satwa (you'll get change from 10 dhs) an...

What he said ^^^^. I think if you take a photo of an Emirati woman without their permission, and they aren't happy about it, you have a good chance of spending some time visiting the police station to get told off. You're not supposed to take photos at the airport but I often see people with their c...

There was news a few months ago that visa renewals would be limited to 2 or 3 times, and then you have to exit the UAE for a month. But I know of people who continue to do the Hatta visa run road trip with no problems - and they're up to many more than 3 renewals.

Maybe airports are more strict?

Don't annoy neighbours, especially if they have more wasta than you.

This is one of those PITA rules that is unrealistic given the high costs and demand for accomodation, and supply shortages.

Anyone can buy a car. You need to have license, over 18? and residence visa to register it.

I don't know Canadian laws but there will probably be import requirements that Middle East spec cars might fall afoul of.
