Thank you for the responses. I guess 1 to 1.5 hours isnt that bad. If you stay at clock tower, allow 2-2.5 hours to Abu Dhabi, 2-3 hours return. Get a comfortable car - it makes a big difference driving a new V6 Camry compared to a 10 year old Corolla. You'll get used to it but it's still tiring - ...

Residence visa is permission to live in the UAE, not work. So no you're not allowed to. You might get away with it though, depending on what sort of freelance work you do and where/how you get paid.

As soon as you start looking for a job you should assume your current employer will get to hear about it, one way or another. Figure out what the probable consequences will be when they do and prepare for them. That said, Dubai is not as small as it used to be so it is possible to find another job q...

Re: Does Dubai design/ develop aircrafts?

I was curious to know if Dubai makes its own Aircrafts.... OR does is usually buy all from BOEING and AIRBUS etc... I think some university students in Dubai have made an aircraft or two. Dubai doesn't buy aircraft, Emirates airlines and Fly Dubai do. And like most airlines around the world, buy ai...

Re: teaching in dubai

From forums Im getting mixed messages - would it be a good move for a recently separated 44 year old teacher? Recently separated shouldn't matter much. There are lots of recently separated people living in Dubai. It will be a good move if you're adaptable and land in a good school. It will be a cra...

1. No. Dubai court papers are in Arabic, but like other posters say, get a translation - the Indian consulate in Dubai should have a list. Or shouldn't there be an officially recognised translator in India? 2. Yes, I think. 3. He can ask for anything. What he gets depends on the lawyers and the cour...

Last time I went through that border was a while ago but it seemed straight forward (although slow moving queue). Like other border crossings with Oman, you stop at UAE checkpoint, get exit stamp on passport, go to Oman entry point, get visa. Somewhere in between you stop for a car search. Here's a ...

Your daughter could get a tourist visa via the airline or travel agent she uses (or hotel but I guess she's staying with you). The immigration department can review special cases - you could try visiting them and talking to someone in authority but I wouldn't be too hopeful about that.

1. Sounds like 3 year limited contract then, yes.
2. Erm, I guess. I don't know enough about the website to say.
3. Contact the Dubai immigration department and/or Ministry of Labour. They both have helplines you can try, or visit them. Bring whatever relevant documents you have.

It will be easy to make friends :). What they want might not be what you're looking for though...

You'll probably make friends quickly with fellow teachers and your network expand from there. Look for a sports or hobby club to join also.
