Got my electricity cut off again over the weekend. I tried telling Dewa that they had never sent me a bill. They don't dispute never raising a bill, but they don't seem to think it is an excuse for not making a payment. I have a bill for about 14,000 just for water for a studio appartment which I ha...
I did register online because I know from experience that even if you don't receive a bill, you still get your utilities cut off if you don't pay it. Dewa just haven't raised a bill for me yet - I check the status online frequently. It was sitting in the Landlords name for the last 3 months. My bigg...
OK DD, you think of the drain as the thing in floor, but I mean the vertical pipe that rises up through the building and all these waste water recepticles (shower, toilet, sink etc) dischage into. It did make some noise, but I only noticed the noise when I was in the bathroom and I assumed it was wa...
You could have had a blocked condensate drain and an overflowing condensate tray, but this would tend to cause a steady drip. If you had a minute or so of rain, then that was water going into one drain and comming out your condensate tray.
There is a lot of violence in the OT which is hard to reconcile with the accepted message of the NT.
The accounts of violence don't seem like teachings, but a dispassionate account of history. Like when Joshua order the destruction of Jericho, it's a lesson in history rather than morality.
I would suggest you talk to a lawyer which will cost 500 - 1000 AED for a consultation. I doubt there is a whole lot you can do. The law doesn't seem to offer much protection in a case like this.
I would steer clear of Joseph Rent a Car - these people are really dangerous. They seem to have a friend in the police force and had my wife arrested when we refused to pay for engine repairs when our hire car overheated.
Well done Sym, that's the right idea. Likewise I don't like people coming to Dubai and saying how bad things are. If they are not happy, they should return to where you came from. I, for one, would not live in a country which I hated. Dubai belongs to the Emiratis, they have a right to their laws a...
The 'strong evidence' refered to in the story was probably a piece of paper signed in Arabic.
Maybe she really did steal the watch, but it doesn't matter. If you are accused of a crime in this country, it really doesn't matter if you did it or not.
There's lots of brutal footage comming out of Libya, but unlike previous wars in history, this one is being covered by anyone with a camera on their phone. Soldiers have targeted non combatants before to demoralise the enemy - not just foot soldiers. Commanders have tried to damage the morale of the...
That is one distrubing video - I had to turn it off. Unfortunately all those people were so desensitised to violence that they enjoy watching it and the Allah Hu Akhbar cheer is just disturbing. It's Muslims mutilating another Muslim - why invoke the name of God?
*BUMP* could someone please suggest a few cheap garages that do cheap painting? There are lots of garrages in Um Ramool who will do it, typical price will be about 4k for a colour change and 3k if you want to keep the same colour. If you find somone who will do it cheaper than that, I doubt they wi...
I would steer clear of Joseph Rent a Car - these people are really dangerous. They seem to have a friend in the police force and had my wife arrested when we refused to pay for engine repairs when our hire car overheated. You just flatly refused and the police turned up? There must be more to the s...
If some of my posts seem negative, I've had some bad luck in the UAE. Knowledge is key to staying out of trouble. If I can share my experiences and maybe help someone avoid getting arrested and/or being parted with their cash, then that's great. Most visitors seem to avoid having the problems I've h...
This poor woman must have terrible psychological pain as well as just the physical. I expect that forgiveness is better than revenge for her psychological healing. There is no joy in causing someone else to suffer.
Just to clarify, there is no Burqa ban in Australia. However due to recent clarifications to the law anyone who is driving a car cannot be anonymous and must remove any face cover on request by a police officer. This is for reasons of public safety. Also banks have had rules for a long time preventi...
@BM -- did i really misquote you on your post on March 16, 2011 (Sleeping woman groped) The first is that I don't know many Emiratis that would entertain a filipina. The locals are known for their racism, and I'm afraid Filipinas come in slightly ahead of dogs. hmmmmm Well I did say I couldn't reme...

Yes, despite the prevalence of Catholocism, some Filipinas are quite open minded and make excellent girl friends. It does take two to tango though - I doubt the men were taken against their will.
