Lamps are fine.
On second thought, your blender might also be OK on 110V. Won't hurt it anyway.

If your goal is to save as much as possible whilst in Dubai and then bail out, HSBC have a savings plan which pays about 6% I think.
I assume that there are conditions wrt minimum monthly instalments etc but I don't know exactly because I spend all of my salary and don't have one of these accounts.

Fast track is for people who have paid and got themselves an e-card, great value for money, straight through and no lines. "FastTrack" is for First/Buisness class passengers. e-gate is to improve the flow of people through passport control. Unfortunately it can't be free because the costs...

I was told by EMAAR that you can buy and sell their properties as many time as you like regardless of whether they have been registered with the lands dept or not. Where do you stand? I agree with sage that, if it is registered with the lands dept as well, you may feel more secure in the event of th...

There is a good reason why we can't vote in Dubai Jabba. Because if they gave citizenship to the expats and allowed them to vote, the country would end up being a run conglomeration of minorities and lobby groups, who form their own communities/gettos, and become further and further isolated from ea...

Re: rant #582 'Johnny Rockets'

If the municipality is so concerned with hygiene standards or food safety (I'm presuming these are the reasons), why don't they concentrate on banning all the rubbish you get clinging to sticks which pass for shawarmas or the falafels which have been sitting there for so long they taste as dry and ...

It is pretty simple:

If you are Male you will be better off getting divorced in UAE
If you are Female you will be better off getting divorced in UK

However, there is no agreement between countries, so obligations can only be enforced in the country where the ruling was made.

Hi Kim, You have a good plan, but it is also quite risky. 6 month employment contracts are not common. You will only get a job if you DON'T mention your intentions to leave after 6 months. Before starting the job you will need to find out what the consequences (if any) will be, when you leave. Next ...

Way too much is being read into this. All that the Australian government did was to deny a request that Sharia Law be implemented into Australian law. There is nothing radical about the Australian decision, apart from the fact that it wasn't taken very seriously. Although this may have been due to t...

I suspect that the term 'Islamic' was used instead of 'Muslim' because it was coined by the western media who believed it to be more of a technical reference, rather that the xenophobic Muslim reference. Either reference can be misinterpreted the same way, and your fears are well justified. There ha...

Construction costs are as high as 300 dirhams per sq ft. The cheapest is about 150 dirhams per sq ft, but it is possible to get something of Relatively good quality for about 175. Either way, if you can get a plot of land for 800k and built a 4000 sq ft villa on it, you are getting a good deal. Good...

Do you guys ever have problems with stuff coming through customs from abroad? I use ebay mainly for electronics and some car parts. You can argue all day about the pros and cons of the legal system, but this topic has reignited a question that I have wanted the answer to for a while now.
