A friend of mine in Dubai also has a BA degree and cannot find work. It seems to be a fairly common qualification for expats from the indian subcontinent and does not carry a lot of weight here. Apart from that, scarlet has already pointed our that experience is your biggest problem. No one gets wor...

A lot of people are predicting a fall property prices, apartments in particular, and JBR if you want an example. I agree with the arguments being put forward about supply and demand, but Dubai does not seem to follow these rules. You only have to take a walk around the developments and see the numbe...

Hi Arnie, No need to use respect just because I am new to the forum! I think that we both agree that there is going to be a flood of apartments on the market over the next 2 years. But I still think that it will only be the srewd investors like yourself who manage to find the bargains where people h...

Gabs, Does this only apply for people who are payed by an Australian company and therefore receive an Australian group cert. I am employed by a local company and my accountant told me that only if you are in Australia for more than 90 days/3 months per year, are you classed as a resident and are req...

Your requirements are quite specific so I can suggest living in Um Suqeim. Jumeirah is also very popular. There are a lot of villa (townhouse) complexes with communal swimming pools. Both are on the right side of Sheik Zayed road to avoid traffic 2 and from work. The nearest school is Emirates Inter...

A list of Post Offices is at http://www.emiratespost.com The thing that makes me angry, is that they charge customs on all parcels being sent from other countries. I wouldn't normally mind, but this also applies to Christmas Gifts, Easter Eggs etc. I feel like telling them to keep the bloody easter ...

Rude Gestures

A lot of drivers (especially blacked out Land Cruisers) deserve this gesture, but I am going to restrain myself in future.

Perfectly valid question because I only saw them at the "Park n Shop" last year.
This year they have sprung up at lots of shops including Carefor and Geant. Next year? Union Co-op?!

My male friend recently got married to a Muslim woman, and the UAE government required that he convert to Islam. It is OK for a Muslim Man to marry a non-Muslim woman but not the other way around. You probably already know this, but for others benefit, the man is seen as the head of the household an...

I think you can download Skype from http://pages.ebay.com/skype/ But Etisalcrap plan on blocking VoIP using traffic monitoring software, so I am not sure how long this will last. Etisalat have realised that just blocking websites is not enough and they need to block the VoIP prot...

The lastest news on the property market is that Tamweel are offering 90% morgages on the market value (rather than off-the-plan value) of properties at Arabian Ranches. It is promising that the banks are slowly trusting the market. Const, I read that you were after an apartment. You can read in othe...

The bottom line is MONEY. Yes, Dubai has many good points: weather, beaches, shopping, low crime. But I can think of many other places in the world that I would prefer to live. Dubai was very low ranked on a recent list of best places to live (183rd?), which I think was a bit harsh, but it is not as...

Deanne, I know the feeling. Sounds like you would rather be treated like a minority in someone elses country than your own. Dubai is a good choice. A taxi costs 50 dings from Sheik Zayed road (Wafi). Arabian Ranches is very good for families and children. I would not reccomend it for single people who want to be close to the action. There is a community feel, but it is of the neighborhood watch variety. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it is...

Hi Gregos, The short answer is No. But it is telecast here by ABC Asia/Pacific. I would be very very surprised if Fox, Showtime, ESPN or ART showed it at all. I contacted ABC and their response was that they do not have a licence to telecast here. So I would not expect them to supply any information on satelite frequencies etc.
The embasy is worth a try, but they would probably be even less helpfull.

I havn't used M-net, but I suspect that it is C band because you need a very large dish to receive it.
I have decided to go with Hotbird "free" to air, and have heard that Showtime and ART can also be received for 10 euro a month.

If casinos are built in Dubai they'll be built in dubailand. The new al bawadi project looks more like du-vegas than anything so they should be there if they'll be built.
