Greedy landord - what to do?

I hope someone can help: I have been in my apartment for nearly 2 years in the marina (since Oct 2006). When I moved in I paid market rate for the year. Last year, and as per the rental laws, the landlord could not increase the rent so we agreed to renew again. The renewal period is nearly due again...

The extra he wants me to pay is 15K Aed plus the 5% - I say go **** yourself Mr Landlord and I'll see you in the rent committee.

I'm surprised at your comments - why give in so easily?

I sent a nice polite email to my landlord stating that I will not be accepting these payments and will only increase in line with the rent cap. It took over a week for him to reply and he basically said - lets have a friendly chat in Sept (when he was coming back to Dubai to renew with me) and we ca...

I am in the Marina and use Helpers. Try these numbers: 043933777 and 043389981. I recommend asking for Amy if you can get her.

Pension advice

I originally came from the UK and have been in Dubai for 2 years now. I didn't have a pension in the UK and since moving to Dubai I have been saving money. Now I think I need to start looking at a pension for when I grow old and wrinkly. Does anybody have any advice on what I should do and where I s...

Marina walk is the blue arrow. The red arrow is Marina promenade. Marina walk is where all the shops, restaurants and coffee shops are. Marina promenade is very new and I think is aimed to be modelled in the same way but does not yet have all the facilities.

Depending on where you are in the Marina your commute will take you 15 mins 40 mins at the moment. Traffic is getting very bad at the moment due to roadworks and the RTA being complete muppets.

When the Marina mall opens I think the roads in the Marina will be crippled.

Good question! Marina Heights is near by I think. Apart from that its difficult to say as there are so many being built.

When it is finished you should be able to walk all around it.

Predictions on the rental market

I'm looking to move to a 2 bed in October when my current lease expires. I am looking at a 2 bed villa in the springs as the wife wants a small garden. I have seen the prices for these drop quite a bit and there are quite a lot available. Do you think this will still be the case in August/September/...

Agency fees

Does anyone know why the tenant is still having to pay for the agency fees in Dubai when renting a property. Shouldn't it be the landlord paying this as they own the property??? Its a renters market. What this means is that you can bargain with them and get all the fees out of your end of the contract so you dont have to pay for them. In fact, just walk away from the deal if you dont like it, they will freak out and make it better for you. for example, you can get free par...
