you could also go to immigration-- they might deny his visa requests in the future, regardless of what biz he is in-- dunno

sounds like you've been badly done by-- it is stories like this that will kill any enthusiasm skilled people might have for coming here and rightly so

lived in sydney for 6 years-- robbed twice!!! i can't imagine that happening here.

i have heard of some horrific things involving labourers that have gone feral from time to time but in the main it is a pretty safe orderly place, with a courteous police force to boot

believe it PJ-- rent is insane here. there are more units coming onto the market and that should help next year... but for now, we're all in the same boat. i wouldn't advise buying till you spend a year here and get the sense of things. not saying it is a bad idea but you wouldn't necessarily want t...

not sure but they don't have much leverage

only thing they could do is list her as absconding-- then she can't ever visit/transit thru dubai again

if she's willing to accept that, then there's nothing else they can really do

you can easily get a 1br for 50k in int city, studio for less and it is far from 100% occupancy

for 70k you might score a 1br in bur dubai or deira-- you may have more options than you think

actually i had applied after 2 mos and got knocked back and i'm certainly a britamerican! Try buying a compact car if you just want a commuter car and plan to live here for more than 2 years. Paying 1500+ per month for a compact means you lose in the long run. Of course you need to work for 6 months...

Re: Can my husband "piggy back" my visa

can concur with all that has been said, unfortunately. still, depending on your husband's qualifications, he may not have any dramas getting a visa on his own (the scenario you outlined-- piggybacking-- is the case in australia) in any case, i'd be interested in talking to you if you're in media sal...

there's the finder's fee-- usually 5%, then the deposit, then the first 3 mos. many landlods permit post-dated checks for the remainder., which helps (as long as you have the $ in the checking acct!).

yeah, pretty normal-- dubai suffers from a lot of people who skip town which is whythey do this

dubai may be a bit of a "boom town" but you have to consider that salaries here have a much wider range than developed countries-- so while you might be prepared to do "something" you'll find that a lot of other non-western expats will be here already doing for a tenth what you'd...

it is because salary is tax free-- but as a US resident/citizen, you lose the advantage as you'd have to pay tax-- a big reason dubai isn't so attractive to american expats

would concur w/previous posters recommending staying in HK. i am a western ex-pat on a good salary but my family is back home. it works for me only because of this. a western school tuition will hit you between the eyes and the weather most of the year means an indoor life for the kids. think twice,...

the world changed that day, for better or worse i'll never forget it. it changed me and my perceptions forever. no event ever concentrated american focus like 9-11 woe betide those who ever forget what that massacre wrought upon the world... and the ashes it rewarded the perpetrators of that horror.

i just leased from diamond-- you need a UAE license for 1 yr min. OR a UAE license (under 1 year) AND a license from a reciprocal list (US, UK, etc) that is valid for longer that 1 year-- otherwise you aren't covered by insurance

this is assuming you are leasing under a residency visa
