Hi , I went through the same thing. Have got a danish driver's license, including a US and a malaysian. But since I held a Malaysian passport, it is by default not recognised! The fault likes in our Malaysian govt not negotiating with the UAE govt. Wrote to the embassy here in Abu Dhabi but no respo...

Costa Coffee
Just a warning to all. Costa in Festival City is out to cheat you.
Had 2 separate incidents where they intentionally charging you for a medium coffee instead of the small which you ordered.
Just make sure you check your bill the next time. As for me I am not returning to Costa.

Well i did complain to the manager.. 
They looked blankly at me and after a while apologised..although damage is already done.
