I have the same problem here in Taiwan where there is a Buddhist temple near by. Every morning at around 6:00 a.m. they start playing these weird and most irritating sounds. I went there one day in the early morning and just sat outside his temple with the horn blowing till they all came out and ask...

Dubai Stock Market crash.

I wonder if this time Emaar had to sell their shares to pay the either underpayed or unpayed employees from India. This stock market is among the top 5 worst performers in 2006. These shares are at historic lows and even then no one is buying. I think the real estate market will come crashing down n...

I have yet to see all those apartments get sold and be bought up by the current underpayed and unpayed laborers in Dubai that sell for over 1,000,000 Dhms. and are rented out for 80,000+ Dhms. per year. If one were to open a local newspaper and look at how many apartments were available to rent at 8...

You guys remind me of the people in NYC who hold up signs and say that the "World Will End.... tomorrow" Only difference is that people in New York make good money, so I doubt New York would not recover. I see your point though. I'm just hoping that the government in the Emir...

I and 10 other close friends have units for sale in Dubai and neither one of us has been able to sell any of them because the buyer usually does not have 40-70% in cash to put up for a unit that may not be ready for another 1-2 years from now. As you know most go from 1,000,000 Dhms. on up. So one w...

What a hate filled thread. It shouldn't be moved, it should just be binned. When the market really crashes, I think we should put a lock on new memberships on the forum, because I for one don't want the place flooded by idiot investors who gloat when they're making money in this market, but whinge ...

Have had personal experience with the rent situation...however consider this: HH Sheikh Mohammed capped the rent increases to a maximum of 15% in any 12 month period. That capping expires in January 2007, leaving landlords free to increase rents to whatever levels they feel suitable or the market w...

Definitely agree with you there. At times though people want something different. Mother always taught us to go home and at as there is always food in the refrigerator but I always liked to go out and buy something to eat :) Nothing beats home food though.

It looks like the government is cracking down on those that don't pay back the Banks or locals since most banks are owned by locals. Those that don't pay back their dues are getting arrested and aren't set free until they pay back their dues in full which in my opinion is fine but wht the hypocrisy ...

I think prices in Dubai will continue to tank and they will tank just like the stock market tanked in Dubai. If you are a local, an expat being paid a high salary or are a rich person with money burning a hole in your pocket. For a lot of poor people from India or Asia Dubai can be hell for them. I guess it all depends on where you come from or your current position in life.

Re: Media censorship of forums and blogs

That all depends on what you consider libel and slander. Talking about China's censorship could considered libel and slander by the Chinese which also would be the same in Saudi,Iran or even the UAE. This is the same reason these 3 countries I named as examples only do not have or sell gossip magazi...

Re: Sheikh Eisa story gaining traction

Even if he was found guilty in court (which the judge wouldn't have the balls to do) he would for sure have been pardoned after and released. Instead of letting the Sheikh do the dirty work after they made sure that the judge ruled on the case the way he was supposed to. I am sure there was some beh...

Re: The French to ban the Abaya and Nikab

What's the big deal??? Here in the UAE we are basically told what we CAN'T wear and what we CAN'T do. Besides full cover is a choice - it is not a religious mandate. In Saudi Arabia ALL women MUST cover with the exception of their face or face arrest - and that includes non-Muslim women!! It is als...
