Hi folks, after I enter Dubai on an employment visa, I understand I'll have to obtain a health card and do the medical test then the company will apply for a residence permit for me. But can I legally start working before the residence permit is stamped on my passport? Please advise.

Hi folks, I'm moving to Dubai next month and I've been doing some research on possible residential buildings I want to rent at.

Should I just go to the building and ask if they have vacancies? Or should I use a real estate agent (i.e. one of those who advertise in Gulf News)?

Please advise.

After my company sends me a copy of my employment visa I understand I should bring it with me when entering Dubai and exchange it for the original at the airport. Should I bring my original diploma with me as well? Will they ask to see it in airport? Please advise.

Thanks for your reply, matrjoschka. I already had my diploma attested in the United States by the university registrar, Notary Public, Secretary of State, US Dept of State and the UAE Embassy. My employer didn't ask for the original. They just asked for a copy of the attested diploma.

Thanks dude. I'll bring the original with me. By the way, the company is in a free zone so maybe the visa process is different there. strange. they may have applied for labour approval on the basis of the copy - they normally require the original. in anycase in order to finally get your labour card ...

Both Etisalat and du offer prepaid mobile service but which one is better for a newcomer to Dubai? Please advise.

I checked the Government of Dubai web site... You can still convert a Canadian license but you need a letter from the Canadian Consulate in Dubai to verify that the license is genuine before transferring it. US can be converted. Canadian I dont know abt British Columbian driver's licence but Ontario...
