Advice on Al Futtaim (dealing with dealers)

I've only recently arrived in Ras Al Khaimah and am researching a purchase of a Toyota Fortuner, my first vehicle purchase in a number of years and my first ever purchase of a 4x4. I'm wondering if anyone here might have advice on dealing with Al Futtaim, anything from getting a better price to maki...

A search revealed many threads about problems encountered having cars serviced, none about dealing with sales staff. Which is why I posted the question. There. And here.

I was wondering why so many cars come with cassette players here. Is there really that much demand? I know in many undeveloped parts of the world cassette is still a viable technology, but I assumed it would have died here much as it has in Japan, Europe, and NA.

Which newspaper do you read?

I've only just arrived and while I have sampled most of the local press haven't yet sampled enough to have an opinion. Which of the news organizations do you find meet your needs for covering local news?

For the same reason I avoid small local banks which lure their clients with such dubious perks. One day they will correct your balance severely. That's why I said to stick to biggest ones. At least they have the experience and reputation, they won't (dare to) screw up, especially public listed comp...

Is that your opinion, or is there data to support your claim? Not trying to call you out, just interested to know.

Purchasing a camera

Any recommended dealers? Are prices here comparable to Europe/US? How are warranties typically serviced? In country, or out? Will I have to pay import duties if I buy online and have a camera shipped to me in the UAE from overseas? Better to wait and buy on my next trip out? Any and all input apprec...

Budget hotels AD

Planning on a trip to AD and was wondering if there is such a thing as a hotel for under 300AED? Cheapest thing I've found online is about 450. Cheapest thing I've found mentioned at DF is 500+ in thread from 2007.

Away for the summer - disconnect the battery?

Hello, everyone. I'm in need of some motoring advice. I'm leaving next week for three weeks abroad. I will be back for four nights, then away again for another four weeks. Some have suggested I disconnect the battery, others have said it isn't necessary. What's the conventional wisdom here in DF? BT...

Touring Jebel Ali port

This is the largest man-made harbor in the world. Is it possible to visit? Does anyone offer tours? Can anyone just drive in, or do you need clearance?
