Although I had read about the baseball cap with dishdasha look before coming to the UAE, it still struck me as a bit funny when I actually saw young local lads wearing such combos for the first time.
I was wondering if anyone has experiences with staying outside of the UAE for long periods of time while on a residence permit. On the residence permit there is a statement that reads: "Residence Permit becomes invalid if bearer resides out of the UAE for more than six months." How is that...
One thing that still gets me about Dubai is how few post offices there are here for a city of Dubai’s current size and grand future ambitions. Emirates Post should really open up more post offices especially in the newer parts of town. Admittedly, some convenience stores do sell postage stamps, but ...

Sorry, I don't understand your point exactly.
I think that it is normal to have a postal system run by a national government and maybe some private sector parcel services by the likes of DHL, FedEx, etc.
Just curious. Does anyone here know anything about the med school? Does it have a reasonable international reputation? Are the faculty any good? Is it extremely difficult for an expat to get admitted? thanks As with any university, assuming you want to someday work outside of the UAE, you should ch...
I will be going to Jakarta (not Bali) in Indonesia. What's there to do and see, etc. Yes, it really depends on what you want to see and do. There is a part of the city with some old Dutch influence still lingering. Yet, in terms of history, Jakarta is not as interesting as, say, Bangkok with all th...
I am planning on a trip to thailand from second week of december basically to enjoy!! Enjoy the nightlife specifically for music as I heard rock and trance are really good there. Any suggestions on what to avoid and what not to carry and plus advice on as being my first solo trip!! Bangkok is one o...
Depending on where you are coming from certain types of over-the-counter medicine that you might be used to would be unavailable. For example, I like to use "NyQuil" (or something similar) when I come down with a cold, but you can't find that here. The pharamcies only sell stuff like "...
What are some ways that I can get to Doha, Qatar from Dubai other than airplane travel  oh and no driving... isn't there a ferry or something? Somewhere I read that there were plans to build causeways between Bahrain and Qatar as well as between Qatar and Abu Dhabi. However, Saudi Arabia was (...
GCC nationals seem to be able to drive from Dubai to Doha, but can Westerners/Asians (expats on UAE residence visas) do the same? Although the UAE and Qatar are near each other, I understand that one currently has to drive thru a small part of KSA after leaving the Western part of the emirate of Abu...
Actually, I've looked at the Dubai Explorer map and a number of others in various guidebooks. In general, such maps can be confusing. Some of the maps do give the misleading impression that there is a de facto Qatar-UAE border (as opposed to perhaps a de jure border), but the better maps and more se...
