Depends on the type of hotel you are looking for, but December is a busy time in Dubai and you won't find a 5 star hotel anywhere under 1000 AED, standard fair is around 1800 AED if they have availability!

I personally can't see prices remaining static if there is 5% VAT. Currently prices in Dubai are lower than say the UK for example as a result of the lack of VAT. For prices to remain static after the introduction of 5% VAT then somewhere somebody (ie. manufacture, importer, distributor or retailer)...

True Arnie......best thing to do is to just accept that there are idiots on the road, relax and give allow yourselves an extra 5 minutes per journey.
