Played Hold Em off and on for around for about 7 years now. Obviously don't play here in Dubai but was playing at a fairly high standard at one point. It's a pity it's frowned upon as it's as much a game of skill as what backgammon is. Neither are a gambling game either if played "properly"...

Never been in the hotel at Dubai Marine but ate in the Italian and had a drink at Sho Cho, you won't be disappointed with the standards and there is a nice but fairly small private beach attached to the hotel. Forget the Hilton Fujairah, it's nice and by a beach but also another 1hr 30 away further ...

It'll be safe but probably won't feel like it, same goes for parts of Deira and Satwa and perhaps Bur Dubai.
