Buddhists in Dubai?

While I understand that the UAE is an officially Islamic country, I was wondering if there might be any Buddhist temples or Buddhist meditation
groups in Dubai.

Any sort of Buddhism would be fine.

More re Buddhists in Dubai

Thanks for your reply.

I'd be interested in anything Buddhist -- an informal meditation group at somebody's home would be OK, for example.

Living costs for Western professionals

Greetings! I have been short-listed for a teaching job in Dubai, but I frankly don't know much about the UAE. The likely salary would be around US$40,000 per year plus free housing (probably a two bedroom apartment), moving expenses, summer vacation air tickets, and some other perks Can one live a d...

God and gods in Hinduism

Although I am not a Hindu myself, my understanding is that many Hindus view the various gods of Hinduism as actually being manifestations of one
Supreme God or Godhead.

Cost of living in Singapore

Actually, you don't really need a car in Singapore esp. if you live near a MRT (subway/underground) station. There are also lots of buses, but the MRT is ideal. Taxis in Singapore are fairly reasonable and the drivers can all speak at least basic English. Also, the drivers will use the meter without...

Nursing school in Dubai

My wife was wondering if there are any nursing schools in Dubai that teach in English.

Also, are there any programs in pharmacology or related fields (again English-medium)
in Dubai?

Any info would be much appreciated.

More about Singapore

Looking again at the posts it seems that your spouse is a language teacher. There are some schools that teach English as a foreign language in Singapore, but the industry is not as big as in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc. because most Singaporeans grow up speaking English and at least one other language...

What do Arab Muslims think of Buddhists?

Here's a fairly general question: What do Arab Muslims esp. locals in Dubai think of Buddhists? Buddhists have voluminous scriptures (sutra), but I assume that Buddhists would NOT be viewed as being "people of the book." Could anyone compare typical Arab attitudes on the subject with those of Southe...

Dubai vs. Singapore

Are there any expats out there who have lived in both Dubai and Singapore? If so, how would you compare Dubai with Singapore?

Secret Dubai diary

A recent newspaper report that I came across (in a paper in Southeast Asia) stated that a blog called the Secret Dubai diary is blocked in the UAE. Is that so?

Thanks.

It's nice to know that one can now access that blog again in Dubai. I looked at it a few days ago from Southeast Asia.

Hard Rock Cafe

What is the area around the Hard Rock Cafe like?

I understand that it's near the Media City, Internet City, etc. Is there much in the way of restaurants (besides the HRC itself) and shopping?

How about taxi stands or bus stops?

Gd 2 know

That's good to know.

You confirmed what somebody told me about the area. He said that just a few years ago it was on the edge of town, but now it is pretty built up.

Guess Dubai has been growing fast.

Blog topic

It's a fairly simple blog. I've only seen text on it when I've viewed it a few times recently.

Secret Dubai diary seems to have been running for about three years.

I suspect the blogger is an expat.

Hope that helps.

What it's like

It's a nice place to visit, but.... Unfortunately, too many of the locals tend to be materialistic, superficial, and arrogant. As bosses, they can often be hard to work for. Of course, there are some exceptions. Not all are like that. Yet, a very large percentage of the locals are that way. If you h...

Peaceful co-existence

Most Buddhists believe in peaceful co-existence and dialog with members of other religions/philosophies including Islam. I have never heard of any Buddhists trying to convert Muslims anywhere. If asked, a Buddhist will explain aspects of Buddhism, but that's normally it. I've read that there are som...

Eating veggies

Flight time to India

About how far is from Dubai to India in terms of flight time?

I'm most interested in Mumbai (Bombay), which should be a shorter flight than New Delhi, etc.
