none of the Bacon in Spinneys or Choithrams is any good. It's all crappy english bacon... I want proper Aussie bacon with the rind and everything. The spinneys on al Wasl road (well the one before Al Safa park coming from the Marina direction) has a good selection of bacon and other infidel foods.

Language Barrier

I left Tbilisi, Georgia last evening and was faced with a language barrier situation. After checking in and clearing immigration I wanted something to drink but had only Dirhams and Dollars and 2 Lari (their currency). I saw this bar and asked whether they accepted dollars. The waitress said: "...

Re: why do you travel?

What are you looking for when you are traveling? shopping? nature? nightlife? cultures? Not shopping (can do at home - and people travel to my hometown to do just that) Nightlife (not in the "club", "drink till you drop" sort of way - midnight is the limit while on vacation). No...

I would say get at least as much as you would get in the UK as the tax-free status would mean an automatic raise. They are no longer (if ever) throwing money away in Dubia for those sort of jobs. The UK expats here will be better to advise you on the tax-free status (how long you have to be out of t...

I'm I missing something re: Sheikmo?

Seems like Sheikmo (the poster) is not liked. I've read his posts and they don't bother me. Maybe I've been away or there were posts that he/she made that were deleted.

What did I miss?

I love beans on toast, scrambled egg on toast, cheese on toast, cheese, bean and ham toasties - mmmm toast! You could always head down to Yahala in Karama and get Brains on toast with French 'Fairies'! Beans on toast has got to be the grossest thing on earth. Although I never tried them (nor will I...

As i thought no big deal.

I kind of like this Sheikmo character and Ian would probably like him. Sage & Onion and Arniegang would hate him (more of a reason to like him).

Wait, is Sheikmo a boy or girl anyway?

I was wondering about any recent contribution by the brits (forget colonialism - obviously the americans kid their a$$ and more recently they have lost all their "empire" in the last 60 years). Frankly, I came up empty. But since Dubai is such a large British Expat post I figure I would be...
