There was the case of the Solami girl who was sentenced to stoning in Sharjah a couple of years ago for adultery. The sentence was never carried out and she was jailed instead.

This is nothing new, anyone who gets a residency visa in this country has to go to the police station and have their fingers prints done, they've been doing this for years already.

No that's fine. You can buy the pill over the counter here, so no issues.

If a drug is 'prescribed' and you have the prescription, then it's fine. But other things like Codeine which you can buy over the counter in other countries are illegal here.

Contraceptives are no problem.

Well if you pulled someone with beer goggles on and sober up during the night, making an excuse to get rid post haste is a good option. If you manage to stick around till morning, tea, coffee, brekky are normally on the cards. People over analyse ONS, they are what they are, a bit of fun and pretty ...

This makes no sense whatsoever, very bad reporting: 'According to the medical reports, the doctors had asked the 48-year-old Pakistani nurse, S.N., to wake up the woman who was still under anaesthesia, which caused her to stop breathing. ' Well if she'd stopped breathing you would 'bag her' for resp...

This is appalling! They 'forgot' about her! 'Left her behind'! Clearly the parents cared nothing for the child, they should be locked up.

The really dark tinted windows are dangerous, and when people have over half the front windscreen done, how on earth do they see anything esp at night!!! Most of these people don't see any further than the front of their bonnet, so anything impeding their vision makes it so much worse. To say this d...

Actually KId, dark tints are illegal in the US! David Beckham recently got a fine for having blacked out windows on his car in LA, so your info is not correct!

The police are correct that that parents are probably suffering enough and charging them is not going to make them any smarter. But would they have been better off leaving the car running with the A/C on, which is in fact illegal regardless of if a child is in the car or not? Comments? The parents ...

Swine flu certificate required to return to the UAE

Gulf News this morning: http://www.gulfnews.com/nation/Health/10335287.html Abu Dhabi: Expatriates who are working in the UAE and are on vacation abroad will have to produce a medical certificate that proves they are not infected with H1N1 virus before returning to the country. So my first question and no offense intended, but what about locals, who might be returning from vacation? Why is there no certificate required by them?

But it makes no sense. Expats have to prove they are virus free before coming back, yet you could have an infected Emirati who hops on a plane and infects everyone else!

Once again, governments not thinking properly.

Kid you missed the point entirely. I was having nothing against locals, take off those blinkered glasses. But it should be across the board for EVERYONE returning from a holiday! What you think the virus will prefer an expat over a local - wake up and grow up already! Everyone has the same risk on b...

Its obvious local are nationals and they will be checked inside the country once they are here and if at all get infected will be treated inside. Expats can be deported back while locals can not be. Cheers Well now that's a bit silly isn't it? So what if someone has contracted swine flu outside the...

As like some other airports in other countries, most probably the current one will be used for domestic/regional/low cost airlines, where the new Al Maktoum will be for long haul/international flights. And about the high passenger traffic in Dubai, it must be traffic OUT of the country due to crisi...
